    Hyrule prepares for war as Calamity stirs. Champions are appointed great beasts to protect their lands. An ancient army of weapons built for this very purpose is awoken to action. The gears of a plan 10,000 years in the making begin to click into place. It needs a new hero who will aid the goddess-blood princess in sealing darkness away.

    A young but talented knight named Link is plucked right out of the royal guard for this very task. He soon discovers that the fighting isn't the hard part - Princess Zelda is beautiful, clever, and VERY good at running away.

    It takes both Wisdom and Courage to reconcile fate and freedom, duty and passion, success and failure. This story follows our hero and princess as they go from reluctant allies to friends, friends to best friends, and best friends to... well, we'll see.

    Alternating POV, but a little more time in Link's. Will reference/depict all memories as of DLC2 with some changes in order because it's absolutely infuriating how geographically ridiculous they are if you go by the official chronology.

    It all made his head ache.

    “Zelda?” he asked aloud. “Was he serious?”

    There was no answer. Just the wind.

    Link grabbed the paraglider. He wouldn’t get any answers in these ruins. He needed to get off this plateau at last.

    He’d follow the slate. He’d find Impa.

    And then he’d find whoever gave him his locket.

    Link held his free hand flat with fingers straightened and tapped his thumb to his sternum twice. 'It's fine.'

    Sidon's hand rotated under Link's, his long fingers curling around and squeezing his hand endearingly. He knows they can't put it off forever.

    In an age of great healing across Hyrule, they are content. King Sidon has taken quickly to his new responsibilities, and Link is balancing his regular duties as Zelda's knight and companion, aware his time in Central Hyrule is limited.

    The wedding has come up before and they've tried redirecting the topic time and time again, expressing they are in no hurry. When the topic is broached once again, Link suspects an unspoken urgency — after all, a Hylian life lasts only a fraction of the average Zora.

    After four years of rebuilding, one year of adventuring, and one more of recovering, Link is no longer the same Wild that conquered the Calamity.

    Six months is an awfully short amount of time. Enough for wounds of the heart to scar, but not long enough to heal.

    After three months of denial and three more of acceptance, the Chain finally becomes whole again.

    But six years' worth of gradual change would not feel gradual when it's only been six months.

    Soon, they'll all realize it.

    OR

    Wild grew into an adult when the Chain wasn't looking, and some of them are not ready for what the change means.
