“Don’t worry, we’ll figure it out,” Oscar uncharacteristically cuts him off, “It’s okay, whatever it is, we’ll figure it out,” he repeats, “I mean, even Carlos can win Australia after a surgery, right? There’s got to be some kind of medical wonder F1 money can buy. We’ll manage.”
Lando lets out a sharp, humorless laugh, stopping him before he could ramble on with another unhelpful idea. He swallows hard, his heart sinking lower with every second. "Osc," he starts, voice strained, barely above a whisper, "it’s cancer."

He never anticipated he would actually get in and he had accepted he would probably never land a job in the pinnacle of motorsport. He does not even want it. Or so he thinks. He gets thrown into the chaos of the McLaren team at the worst possible time, as they deal with the aftermath of Brazil. And there is Lando. Lando who Oscar had deemed to be an asshole before ever having met him. Lando who makes mistakes, who feels broken. Lando who absolutely should not be Oscar's to put back together. Yet a series of events makes Oscar look at him differently. But will he stand to face the difficult reality of his own feelings?

It was simple, really.
The mission was this: fly to Budapest, extract the asset, get him across the border to Austria, hand him over. Max Verstappen — some genius with a prototype weapon, or countermeasure, or whatever. Lando couldn’t be arsed to read the report all the way through; all that mattered was that half the world wanted him and the Austrians had been the highest bidders. The Agency just had to get him where he needed to be before anyone else got there.
So that was it. Extraction, hand-off, bottle of champagne to celebrate on the flight home. Lando and Oscar had pulled off far harder jobs.
It was simple. Until it wasn’t, of course.

“I can smell how fucking noble you’re being.”
“What?”
Lando looks obscene this close to Oscar, neck bared, heat thick in his scent. He hums a little, then tips his head back down, shuffling back further, removing any millimeter of space between his back and Oscar’s chest. “I can smell how much you want to,” he says.
Oscar feels a bit incredulous. Of course he wants him. He’s choking with need. But he can’t do anything about it. They’ve never even talked about this kind of thing before, let alone been in this incredibly torturous situation before.
“I’m an alpha,” Oscar says desperately in explanation, because surely Lando can’t blame Oscar for wanting him.
(Alternatively: Lando goes into heat after the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, and Oscar is a master of restraint.)
