Summary
It's complicated, yet fitting to say that Optimus loved Megatron. Loves him, still.
A human philosopher once said that the opposite of love wasn't hatred—rather, the two are fruits borne of the same tree called 'Passion'. No, the true antonym of love and hate was indifference.
So, if he were to frame it in that twisted, horrible way, then Optimus loved Megatron, who, once upon a time, tried to change Megatron from his path to destruction.
The truth was he needed Megatron, to remind him he's living. He needs Megatron to be his old self, to tell him in his own savage way of 'You're enough,' through brutal hands; to drop him onto a cliff and have a medic piece him back together for cycles; to feel the pain behind the memory of all his scars.
To let him know that he was still on the broken planet they had ruined together.
Optimus suffered under Megatron, and he suffered so devotedly.

We highly suggest reading this series in order, it may be difficult to understand certain aspects of the plot if parts are skipped.
