Before the war even began, there were more of them. More enhanced clones, all with talents more spectacular than the next. They were his brothers, and Crosshair thought they could take on the galaxy together. He didn't even think of the possibility of all of them not staying together forever. But all that began to change the moment a new cadet was suddenly added to their squad, a kid with big goggles and an even bigger brain.
The prequel to my story Settling In, where we get to see where Crosshair and Tech came from, what happened to all their previous brothers, and how they ended up a part of Clone Force 99.

Summary
Instead of Shane, it is Ilya who suffers a concussion during the Boston-Montreal game in April 2017. Dazed and agitated, Ilya briefly starts speaking and responding only in Russian and the medics can’t calm him down. Luckily, Shane started studying Russian after Ilya spoke to him in Russian on the phone from Moscow. For no particular reason. Certainly not because he’s fallen in love with Ilya Rozanov.
In Montreal with lingering concussion symptoms, Ilya is advised not to fly home for a few days, and the hospital won’t release him without assurances that he has someone to stay with him until his symptoms improve. Luckily, Shane conveniently has a condo in Montreal no one knows about and a few days before he has to travel again.
But Ilya’s symptoms don’t resolve after a few days. Which is okay; Shane can handle it. He can take care of Ilya, study Russian, lead his team into the playoffs, and keep Ilya’s continued presence in Montreal a secret. He can do everything, no problem. He is Shane Hollander after all.

Tatooine isn’t a place anyone ends up for good reason. No one asks where he came from, what he’s doing here, what his name is. He spends as much time alone as he can.
“Someone’s asking after you,” Annileen says, on his seventh visit to her compound, as he’s bundling his wares onto his speeder. “Mando, I think. Didn’t tell ‘em shit, but they knew a lot already.”
Obi-Wan thinks, foolishly, of Cody. This close to Huttspace, it’s still Mando armour before it’s trooper armour, the war a far off thing very few people care to know about but bounty hunters a constant.
It’s not Cody. He would have sensed Cody. Cody shot him out the sky.

Gaius dropped a half-finished potion, turned several fascinating shades of red and pink before moving on to near-purple, and yelled at Merlin for being irreparably foolish for quite a long while before Merlin was able to get a word in edgewise and was allowed to tell him anything more about the afternoon.

“Merlin?” It’s Gwaine. Merlin didn’t see him come in but suddenly he’s sitting on the bed in front of him, reaching a hand out to touch but not quite closing the distance. Merlin lets out a sob, in anguish or relief he doesn’t know, and he falls forwards. The knight wraps his arms around Merlin and silently holds him as Merlin cries. The yelling gets louder. Merlin can smell smoke in the air. Gwaine hugs him tighter.
