Benedict, seemed unfazed, his smile deepening as he took a step back, his hands still in his pockets. "I suppose I should go check on the others," he said. "But I just wanted to say, if you ever need a break from Edmund’s endless energy, you know where to find me."
Sophie blinked, momentarily stunned by the invitation. "I’m sure I can manage," she said, offering a small, teasing smile. "I think I’m the one who’s supposed to be offering the breaks around here."
Benedict laughed, a rich, genuine sound that made her pulse race a little. "Fair enough. But don’t be a stranger, Sophie."
And with that, he turned and left, leaving Sophie standing in the nursery, her heart beating a little faster than before.
