Summary
Lance has chosen to live amongst the creatures that humans fear since he was young. He's learned that his own kind are the real monsters. But, when a human hating werewolf that needs specific medical aid shows up on his property, Lance has to prove he's an exception to the rule in order to help him.

“Easy.” Lance spoke softly as he inched his body closer. The wolf weakly squeezed in response, a feeble smile on his lips. “I don't make promises I can't keep.” The black haired creature watched him through half lidded eyes. He was getting tired himself and let his cheek rest on the mattress. “Know that I promise to do everything in my power to take care of you. All right?” He brought his gaze up and hoped he was making eye contact through the wolf's bangs. “You don't have to struggle anymore. You're safe; they're safe. It's okay.”
Maybe it was the fever, because there were no alarm bells. No red flags. Nothing to indicate this human was a threat - something to fear and defend against. The wolf's instincts had been assuaged as he settled into the notion that he was protected and provided for here. In fact, the way he was being consoled made him feel like a pup being cared for by his mother.

“Do you know how to work the coffee pot?” Ramonde asked as he sat at the kitchen table, tugging the cardigan around himself. He knew the wolf, pregnant or not, wouldn’t have made any for himself, but wasn't sure if Emory had ever paid attention to when it had been used.
However, Emory knew the human's patterns just enough in the roughly two weeks he'd been in Ramonde's care. He hadn't needed anymore context. “You should probably stick to water, if being hungover is as bad as you said.”
“It would really help me wake up. Totally fine if you don't know, because I can just make my ow–”
“Water, Ramonde.” It was a tone of finality that Ramonde had never heard from Emory. If the voice hadn't been enough to make him shrink, the way his lavender eyes were mere slits when he turned to stare back certainly was.

His blue eyes widened in shock as he saw the state of her room. From what little he could see, it looked like someone had pillaged her bedroom. Furniture was knocked askew, something glass had been shattered, and some plush animals had been torn apart. It looked as if her desk was the only thing keeping her safe, as it appeared to be butted up against the door. Gray then focused his attention on Maribelle. He opened his mouth to say something, but was cut off.
“...I told them, Gray...” His heart completely stopped, Maribelle lifting her head as she spoke. Adorning her left eye was a red mark; it was so bad that there was no way it wouldn't bruise.
