He was so busy looking desperately for those mushrooms that he failed to notice the circle was no longer empty. He sulked around the meadow, searching with no luck and holding back panic at the thought of what he was going to have to do. How long did he have to get out of the forest before the fae noticed he took a mushroom? Would he even be able to or were they protected by magic? Would touching even the mushrooms that made the perimeter bind him to the fae the same way stepping into the circle would?

“Yeah, sure,” Tommy agreed, knowing that if they said he was kidnapped, it would keep people from getting suspicious of why he was seen in public with Siren. “Anyway, can I get the chicken nuggets happy meal, with a coke?”

The villain looked with such concern and courtesy, as some time ago in the city. Tommy put on a smile at the praise and deciphered his task.
Distract everyone while Philza does his business like robberies and undermining the heroic system.
"Uh, well, that sounds cool," the boy shrugged. "And what will I get for it?"
"Home. Money that you have the right to dispose of as you please. Delicious food every day. A rich, luxurious life. Agree?"
Tommy bit his lip and looked down. Risky. Very, very risky.
Tommy is pleased that after his death he got into a novel he read once. In the end, he is a background character at most, and the whole drama of the plot certainly does not concern him.
But one day Philza Craft, the main antagonist of the story, comes and declares him his son.

Summary
Out of all of the possible jobs you could get in the beautiful city of Manburg, the best you could possibly hope for would be a position in the hero’s tower. Though being in the town square, close to the town hall and other villain targets, it’s oddly peaceful inside the tower. There could be a villain-hero fight just outside the doors, hell, even in the lobby and nobody aside from those in the fight could be bothered. The security is fantastic, none of the staff (aside from the heroes who get into fights) ever get hurt. Good hours, great pay, amazing benefits, it’s the perfect job!
At least that’s what the brochures sat on the counter said, from the parts Tommy was able to read from his spot behind the cash register of a trendy-looking bookstore. Don’t be mistaken, Tommy loves his job, he thinks it’s amazing, and his boss is very kind.

He gave the barrier another loud crack, delightedly watching as they scrambled away in abject terror.
Nodding in satisfaction, he turned around to meet the eyes of two other prisoners that had been thrown into his cell.
He froze.
Right.
There were now aliens in his cell.
And he probably just scared the hell out of them.
Or: Humans are a dangerous race feared by all on an intergalactic scale. Techno, a human ex-soldier that was abducted by aliens 18 months ago, is biding his time in captivity.
This changes when two young aliens are sent into his cell to die.

Tommy didn’t know if he was lucky or cursed. He survived the crash landing on this supposedly “safe” planet, but he’s too far away from the other survivors and their messages are coming through garbled. The only people close enough for him to get a clear message from ended in screams. At least he’s in the shallows.
This wasn’t the planned landing sight. All the other survivors were too far away and busy, y’know surviving, to help him. He was on his own. He would survive, he had his escape pod, base building tool, and a somewhat damaged PDA with information on this planet's wildlife.
Now if only the leviathans circling near where his shallows drop off into deeper ocean could stop singing like whales and fuck off that would be great.

Tommy wasn’t sure what he had been anticipating when he broke into Techno’s house. Maybe he was expecting his brother to kill him on sight, lodging a crossbow arrow straight between his eyes. Maybe he was expecting to be dragged back to exile, cursing and screaming the whole way. Mostly, he was just hoping that Techno wouldn't be home. Tommy had a half-baked plan to hide out in the piglin’s basement, squirreling away gapples and supplies until he could figure out something better.
He hadn’t even considered that Techno could be hibernating.
Or: Tommy has just escaped exile. What better place to hide than the house of his hibernating older brother?
