Summary
Merlin laughs and pulls away, and with his retreat comes the light again. Lance can’t even speak for his arousal. He is forced to huff instead, which makes Merlin laugh even harder.
“Don’t be jealous, my friend,” Merlin says. “You’re both special to me in your own ways.”
He unfolds the white linen napkin containing bread and offers it to Lance alongside a smile. Lancelot finds, however, that he is no longer hungry.
He’s starving.
(Lancelot learns that Merlin is involved more intimately with the king than he expected and just can't understand why until Merlin shows him.)

Summary
Lancelot grins up at the man. He wonders if there’s more blood stuck to his teeth now; if his torn lips and broken nose are any indication, the blood is nowhere near done flowing.
The man is quiet. Almost resigned. Lancelot wonders if he looks down at his hands and feels any horror; if he looks down at his fingers, at the blood caked under his fingertips, and asks himself what have I done.
Lancelot hopes he doesn’t. He doesn’t look like the sort of man to. But the steady focus in his eye had thrown Lancelot off. Had made his blood boil hot in his veins and his bones itch for a fight.
He’s all fought out, now. And still, he burns for something. He could not say what it could be.

Summary
Lancelot hesitates. Clearly he’s hit a significant nerve by hiding this injury, and it worries him. He doesn’t think he’s ever seen Merlin so worked up. “I’ve been cleaning it about twice a day,” he begins quietly, “and I tore my spare sheet to keep it covered. I haven’t used any herbs.”
Merlin stares down at the offending wound, lips pursed and forehead wrinkled in worry. “I have to drain it,” Merlin says grimly. “That pus has to come out.” He glances up at Lancelot, concern taking over the lingering anger in his eyes. “It will hurt.”
“I can bear it,” Lancelot assures. He pauses a moment, then continues. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I meant to prevent work, but I only made more.”
“I don’t care about the work,” Merlin murmurs, returning to the gash and avoiding Lancelot’s apologetic gaze. “Lance…”
Lancelot hides an injury, hoping to prevent more work for Merlin, who is swamped caring for four others. But the wound becomes infected, so he reluctantly reveals it to Merlin, expecting the angry response—but not the reason behind it.
