Hawk Moth did not bother with a greeting, nor with looking away, instead keeping his focus and sword laced on Marinette’s throat. “Is Nathalie disposed of then?”
“Yes, yes indeed,” Lila answered, voice slightly wavering. “Quite a pity, really.” The Glock in her hand spun and vanished. “Little red Marinette, too fast for her own good.” A spark lit in her eyes.
Marinette glanced at them both, almost not believing her own eyes. Everything clicked instantly. Her heart beat terribly, and tremendously so.
Hawk Moth smirked. A steady, uneven breath escaped his stinking presence. The dead sparks and dying embers of an exhausted fire lingered heavily in his eye sockets. “Good, good.”
And at that moment, Lila, unthinking, casually brushed a hand through her hair, revealing the glint of a brooch, for a sliver of a second. Then she was stiff. Hawk Moth did not see and Lila did not realize her display. Marinette bit her tongue down.
“What will you do now?”

Or, even though Marinette lies kneeled, at the mercy of Hawk Moth and Lila Rossi, the sparks of hope still find a way to overcome impossible odds.

A faint iron tinge reminded him of the blood he'd split, and of the blood he had yet to spill. He'd fought so hard to undo what they molded him into, to hopelessly show them the world could handle him. And, of course, the world called for him to relapse.
