Humanity was, at its very core, cruel.
Despite all the preaching otherwise, despite whatever bullshit that naive, sheltered philosophers and thinkers expounded upon throughout the ages, humanity was a master in the art of cruelty. It didn’t matter how kind, how selfless, how good someone claimed to be. At their heart of hearts, in their very core, in the essence and fiber and atoms of their being, they could never be rid of that black stain ingrained into the very soul (or lack thereof). A capability to enact a violence most thought unthinkable.
Ghost had known it all his life.
Or: Ghost is, despite all rumors to the contrary, entirely and completely human. And, for better and for worse, so is Simon Riley.

Often, you need to fight for what you want. Still, love takes more than willpower, and getting together is just the beginning of it. As Ghost and König fight, dedicate, learn patience, make promises, and love each other through time, their relationship blossoms. If it wouldn't be for all the obstacles in life. Nonetheless, together, they trust and therefore, overcome.

If there wasn’t the fucking Russian who makes him reevaluate everything he thought he had known about himself and his shaky grasp on his sexuality.
But one thing is certain. Despite his best attempts, Nikto is neither easily manipulated, nor stable enough to treat others with the kindness and patience they might need.

Summary

This whole mess would be so much easier to solve, if there wasn’t the looming threat of a ticking clock, counting down the days of his deployment…

As he is slowly stripped from all of what makes him him, he is forced to ponder on who he is, his role within this world, and who he wishes he were instead. He comes to learn quite quickly that he cannot outrun his problems forever, as a lifetime of regret and hurt come crashing down around him like an unstable house of cards.
And at his all-time low, in personal and professional life alike, he meets König too. Stuck in the same position as him, the KorTac Operator gets under his skin and makes him throw aboard all his rules. As they dwell together in those blue hours, stuck between waking and sleep, he finds and unlikely companion, navigating the same pathway.

Clark struggles with something his Ma might call jealousy after walking in on Bruce and Hal together after a mission. Instead of letting Clark's feelings ruin the Justice League's hard-won team cohesion, Bruce suggests an alternative arrangement: sleep together once, work the tension between them out of their systems, and then go back to normal afterward.
The problem with that plan? It's not just casual, and neither of them can ever go back to normal once it's all said and done.
