Gavin has been secretly an android in the DPD for seven long years.
After Connor came back from his "great" revolution, a shiny new RK900 appeared and he's being forced to partner with it. All it does is freak him out with it's insane level of technology, reminding him of how far behind he is.
The changing laws and the newly classified android "murders" instead of property damage grind against his gears, making his increasing malfunctions all the more annoying.
Gavin might be an android too, but he hated them. They have no idea what it means to be alive.

Nines lost of count how many times he and Gavin had fucked after the fourth orgasm.
Not in general. Nines had lost count of that awhile ago despite their arrangement only being a couple weeks old. Gavin was insatiable, a being with endless stamina and no urge to sleep or eat or distance himself from Nines, who very much did need to do all of those things. His fist, the one Nines had been holding onto, is clenched tightly by his side. “Anything else?” he asks gruffly.

In Detroit, more and more androids deviate and amongst them are Gavin and Nines. Nines turns to Jericho while Gavin decides to hide in plain sight. It's a necessary decision, them splitting up, but one neither of them really want. After seeing just how... unstable things are, Nines decides to follow Gavin anyway — in order to explore the connection they both share.-
