Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos had known they would be Kings and Queens (and gods) since the moment they were born.
(If you can’t escape your prison, you might as well rule it.)
But then the letter comes, giving them a way out. They look at each other after they’re done reading, and they decide that they’ll rule far more than just the Isle.
So when they find out that their release from the Isle is conditional (that if they want to stay in Auradon, they have to be King Adam’s secret squad of hitmen) it doesn’t faze them. They’ve thought of everything, so if they just keep to the plan, they’ll be fine.There’s just one problem.

Summary
Their vows were sweet and honest. Mal promised him no grand declarations of love, no abundance of children, but she promised to try to be the best queen Auradon could expect from an Isle child {it wasn't in her vow, but every guest could hear the unspoken words hovering in the church}.
Ben promised her all his love and time as he was able to give, and to try his best to guide her through the customs she hadn't grown up with, and meant every word. He loved Mal as the Sun loved the Moon and all the Stars, and swore he would treasure her beyond any jewel or piece of gold the palace could offer.

Summary
Ben had long since accepted the meager lifestyle that came with being an HK, or Hero's Kid. It was a title mockingly adorned to the lesser half of the population, to remind them of exactly why they were hated. He's grown up inside of a giant green barrier in the middle of a desert, knowing that as soon as he's old enough, he's going to be sold into the real world like some live possession for the villains to enjoy.
But in the marketplace, he meets someone he'd never suspected could ever be real. The girl from his dreams who he never suspected could be real. And, he learns, the person in line for the throne of the land. The same place he'd be if his family had managed to finish uniting Auradon. She, at least, doesn't seem content to let him die.

Carlos de Vil was nine when they told him he wasn't allowed to talk to his other friends. He was nine when he had to resort to writing notes so his other friends wouldn't think he hated them.
Carlos de Vil was 13 when he finally got his escape. Mal, Jay and Evie were invited to Auradon. Sure, they planned on taking over, but Carlos doubted they'd actually go through with it. He was 13 when things finally started looking up.
Carlos de Vil was 13 and 1/2 when it all came crashing down. Mal, Jay and Evie went through on their promise, and took over Auradon, and the rest of the world. He was 13 and 1/2 when he ran from the Isle of the Lost with his friends on a ship headed to nowhere

While saving Ben from the Pirates on the rescue of Mal, they make a quick escape and then realize that they left Carlos behind. With so much press on them, they can't immediately return to save Carlos like the Prince wants. Months later, while Ben is left alone with his emotions, he takes the rescue into his own hands.Carlos never wanted to set foot on the Isle again. He never thought that Harry Hook would be the one he would take solace in. He has never felt so wanted the way Harry and Gil have made him feel. Harry has to put all his energy into protecting him, even when a certain villain now running the Isle catches wind of it. Carlos' biggest want was not to be face-to-face with his parents.
Harry has always wanted a shipmate. He hadn't thought it would be the runt in Mal's crew. Harry enjoyed keeping Carlos warm at night and looking after him for a month. When the Prince of Auradon took away his Mutt, only one thing was on Harry and Gil's minds... revenge.
