Summary

Shiro’s life had been perfectly pleasant and peaceful. He had his daily routine and his small bakery, and despite Hunk’s teasing that he needed to get a life he had a perfectly good one already. And then the recently disowned son of the richest man in the country came around looking for a job and turned everything upside down. Lotor was rude and brittle and terrible at following directions, easily the worst employee Shiro had ever had. But he clearly needed someone to just- give him a hand up, and what the hell was Shiro supposed to do, turn him away?

It had been two months since the failed prisoner exchange and Shiro was still furious. He’d told them it was a bad move- he’d told all of them. But they hadn’t listened to him, choosing instead to trust Zarkon of all people as they practically ran to sell Lotor out, even after everything he’d done to help them.
In a turn of events that no one but him had been able to predict, everything had gone wrong. Of course it had. Zarkon went back on his word, of course he did. And now they still didn’t have Sam and they didn’t have Lotor anymore either.

Summary
Lotor planned to spend an evening alone. Instead, an unexpected booty call (in which he, of course, has no emotional investment) takes a more interesting turn.
“I wasn’t ignoring you or anything,” Shiro mutters. “Not since I got back, I mean. Texas was a lot? I wanted to see you? But Ryou’s been on my case? Which only made me want to see you more, but I…” He shakes his head. “I’ve been kind of a mess?”
“You owe me no explanations, darling.”
Whether or not Lotor means this, he can’t say. Shiro truly owes him nothing. Any consideration from Shiro, much less some explanation about he’s saying or some insight into what he means, would be a gift — if and only if Shiro ever decides to allow Lotor in like that. In the meantime, he presses his ankle into the muscle of Shiro’s leg. Tries to focus on that, rather than his thoughts about Shiro’s implications or the possible directions they could lead, beyond tonight. Thinking about improving one’s lot paves the road to Hell even better than good intentions.
Regardless, he whispers, “Mess or not, I am merely relieved to see you.”j

She realized with a start that he was gripping his side with his other hand, where she could see blood dampening the dark fabric of his suit. She ran through their brief altercation in her mind, but she was almost positive she hadn’t managed anything that would cause him to bleed. The emperor’s eyes followed hers, and he gave her a put-upon sigh.
“Wondering about this?” he asked, sounding as casual as if she’d asked him about a new set of gloves rather than a wound grievous enough to bleed through the thick fabric of his formal wear. “I regret to inform you, but you’re not the first assassin to visit me today. Not even the second one, actually.”

Nexcid arrives at her appointment to assassinate the new Emperor, Lotor, for the good of the Empire. She winds up being more successful than it turns out she wanted to be.
