Summary
J is for Jumped
***
The first thought John can muster as he inches back to consciousness is that Marigold has never thrown him so hard before. He is pressed to the ground, cheek against concrete rather than dirt, and when he blinks, it's dark. He must have been lying here for a while, or else he set out riding far too late. Father will be angry. It isn't right for the heir apparent to be prancing around on a pony anyways, let alone past curfew.
OR
Carter is attacked, but remembers none of it.

I is for Illness
***
“I think he might have a headache, Dr Vucelich.”
“Please, it's just Carl- and whether he does or not, it doesn't really matter. He's missing out on vital learning experiences here, Peter, surely you can see that.”
The topic of conversation is changed. Carter becomes an afterthought to Vucelich, and that ought to be the case for Peter too, but it isn't. An hour passes, then two, and setup begins for the cardiac surgery panel. Carter doesn't show.
OR
Carter and Benton are invited to attend a conference in California as part of Vucelich's research project.
Naturally, though, Carter gets sick after only a day, and it's up to Peter to decide where his priorities lie: with his student, or with the study.

H is for High Fever
***
As he turns the corner onto the right street, the movement of his feet slows to a halt. His eyes blink, waiting for the illusion in Robby's driveway to fade, but when he looks again, the motorcycle is still there. The very same one that Dennis watched Robby ride away on 30 days ago.
OR
Dennis comes home one day to find that Robby is back from his sabbatical, but all is not as it seems.

G is for General Anesthesia
***
Of all things in medicine, general anesthesia is perhaps the most frightening. It is a chemical death, however temporary, and its mechanisms are not understood by even the greatest scientists. Peter hates this: the not knowing. He has spent such a great deal of time studying and absorbing information, all so that he might be able to peek behind the curtain and know how the magic trick is performed. To have control.
There is no control here. Peter can guarantee nothing.
OR
Three weeks after the stabbing, Carter has his second surgery. Peter frets.

F is for Feeding Tube
***
“Just try a little.” She coaxes, setting all manner of things in front of him, pushing a spoon into his palm. “Surely something looks nice, hm? What about Jell-O? Very easy on the stomach, John.”
He eyes the gelatinous goop in front of him with suspicion, even as his insides feel hollow with hunger and acid leaps at the back of his throat.
“I don't know if I can. Everything's making me sick.”
OR
After the stabbing, Carter develops gastroparesis.

Summary
Michael “Robby” Robinavitch was tired, had a headache, and just wanted to go home after a long shift.
When he realised Whitaker had been exiled from his apartment for the night, and was quite concerned about his boss’ health, Robby decided, quite impulsively, to just take the kid home with him.
That’s what good attendings do, right?

Summary
They say doctors make the worst patients. They say 'do as we say, not as we do'. They eat junk food, smoke, work long, stressful hours, and never get enough sleep. It's amazing they don't end up on the gurney instead of standing beside it more often.
The problem, Robby finds, with running a tier 1 level trauma centre is that your own health is often pushed right to the bottom of a very long priority list.
