The door clicked open slowly, and Anakin didn’t raise his head. He knew who it was if only by the distant footsteps.
They grew louder as the shadow of a man he had once knew like the back of his hand came into view.
They didn’t exchange words, just sitting beside each other in silence until Anakin leaned over to rest his weight on Obi-Wan, head falling to lay on his shoulder.
Obi-Wan acted quicker than he had ever done before, wrapping Anakin in a tight hug and burying his face into the sandy curls.

After managing to sit him down on a cot, Obi-Wan grabbed some water and a plain cracker and sat down beside his Padawan.
“I know it won’t be a comfort,” He said quietly as he opened Anakin’s hand and placed the water bottle in it, “but we won. I can’t change what you saw, though I wish I could, but the best we can do is move on”
Obi-Wan glanced over to see Anakin staring at him. He had to suppress a surprised inhale. He had dealt with this sort of situation before, and because of that he hadn’t expected any eye contact for a while.
“It wasn’t worth it,” Anakin’s raspy voice replied, distant and low, but better than nothing.

After a battle is won, a bomb is dropped on a nearby town, and Obi-Wan is left to pick up the pieces when Anakin crumples with it.

Obi-Wan took a deep breath and grasped his lightsaber a little tighter, please hurry up, Anakin.
He wasn’t going to last very long– the Force was becoming duller, like a distant memory, with each minute he had used against the droids already. Not to mention, the sharp stabbing pain behind his forehead reminded him he really needed to lie down soon.
“Please just– hurry.” Obi-Wan murmured into his comlink, steeled himself, and turned around ready to face the onslaught of droids marching in unison toward his position.
He couldn’t out run them– wouldn’t– so he turned toward them and fought.

“Floopy” Anakin mumbled, turning over so he was lying on his stomach and almost suffocating in the pillow. Obi-Wan tilted Anakin’s jaw with his fingers so the prophesied ‘chosen one’ wouldn’t die by passing out after getting too drunk.
“Floopy?” Obi-Wan parroted in amusement, playing absently with one of Anakin’s curls. He felt his heart clench as Anakin melted into the touch, letting out a soft sound when he pressed his head into the palm of his Master’s hand.
