Here, the wind got into his jacket and pierced his skin. Here, it was biting and made his cheeks hurt as the wind lashed him. He had to stare at the ground beneath him whenever they went out. Which really never happened, because he hated the feeling of the wind getting into his eyes, making them water. He supposed that he didn’t really even have a reason to hold his chin high anymore. The Tidestriders were no longer nobles. They were just… ordinary people. A few Tritons living in a coastal town, instead of the city known for their people, or even in the ocean.
The house creaked as the wind picked up, making Gillion wonder if a storm was coming in.

OR Gillion Tidestrider is a 17 year old boy in the 1980s whose family just moved to a small coastal town. With little to think about and less to do, he wanders down to the beach one day as a storm encroaches. He's never seen a proper storm before, but this storm will certainly show him all sorts of things- how to make friends with a boy his age, and things he never thought possible, like life aboard a ship that sank 300 years ago.Series

The question redirected Chip’s attention to Gillion, who was staring at his letter with a strange intensity. At the mention of his name he looked up, fins pinned back. “Hm? Oh, it’s nothing.”
“Doesn’t seem like nothing.” Chip said, squinting at Gillion. He watched as Caspian took the letter from Gillion’s hands and scanned it with his head tilted.
Gillion sighed, relenting. “My parents expect me to bring a date.”

He really wanted to see what a flustered Gillion would look like.
And he tried everything to see it, too, but nothing worked. Not a single damn thing. Compliments and encouragement were met with bright smiles and expressions of gratitude. Fleeting kisses on his cheeks, nose, and forehead were responded to in soft looks and a tiny, adorable amount of minor confusion.
That should have been his first clue.
