Summary
The highest observation deck had a beautiful view of the water. They could see a pod of mer breach the waves. Their trills and chirps carried up to the deck, delightful and light. Xisuma heard himself gasp quietly. Their scales glinted in the light like polished jewels. It was magnificent. At that moment, Xisuma wanted nothing more than to be swimming in that water with them.
The largest of the pod, the Matriarchal Female, stopped and stared up at them. She let out a whooping call and flicked her fins in a sign of surprise. Xisuma felt as though she was looking into his soul. She let out a loud trill and her younger pod-mates swam closer to her. She dipped under the waves and they followed, gone in an instant. It was a graceful display, one of power.
As Xisuma walked on after his classmates his mind was occupied by the stare of the female mer. Huh. Interesting.
Or: Xisuma is handed a baby mer randomly on a research trip and doesn't know how to feel about it quite yet. That's okay though, because this merling is the sweetest thing he has ever seen.

Xisuma, the most terrifying villain in all of Hermiton history, had frozen in battle. He’d known it would happen eventually, he’d slip up, something would happen, he’d freeze. However he’d never expected the circumstances to be like this.
Jargon, the snarky, self-deprecating, newest member of the Hermiton Anti-Villain League, or HAVL, as they so arrogantly called themself, had been unmasked. And Xisuma would’ve been lying if he said he didn’t curse the creator at that moment.
