Nobody had ever tried to help him. Nobody had ever defended him, or pulled Wild to the side and asked how he was really feeling.
No. None of that. Wild knew that the others didn’t care about him, they never did. Instead, they just laughed at him. They laughed at how he was unable to fend off for himself, and never fought back, never said anything; Maybe they were right, maybe he was pathetic.

“Give that back.” Warriors hissed as he snatched it out of Legend’s hand, his face indefinitely red and burning. Legend took that to a slight offense, leaping back as he held both hands up in a mocked surrender.
“Woah, okay man no need to-”
“Get out.” Warriors deadpanned.
“What?” Legend breathed. He wasn’t being that mean.
“Out. Now.” He pointed to the door, his movements stiff and articulate.

“Wind, I’m being serious!”
“As am I.” Wind said as he read the back of the carton of chocolate milk before tearing the top and pouring it in the bowl. Sky felt himself getting sick from the abhorrent sight of what Wind considered “breakfast”.

Sky tries to warn Wind on his unhealthy eating habits. while Wind mistakenly takes it as Sky's hostility in him. However, neither of them are able to listen to their own selves first.

Intertwining lights of Gold and Sheikah Blue, forming wings at her back as she jumped. Invisible to her, but shining like a star to anyone with Courage in their veins.
Falling until the last moment and whipping out a piece of fabric that was very obviously unnecessary. She turned and started to bound over to the heroes she had helped on their way.
None of the eight recognized her until she got closer.
Legend gasped, Sky shrieked, and Wind looked like he was going to faint. Time stood stunned, even him blown away by the appearance, Hyrule took in a sharp and short breath, Four looked like they were going to scream and Wars eyes widened until they couldn't anymore. Twilight actually started shaking from what seemed to be disbelief and possibly excitement.
"Well, well, well, Heroes! Looks like we meet again!"

Seeing her form made him feel nothing and everything all at once and it overwhelmed him greatly. He’d dragged himself to the riverbank, and with his legs still submerged in the cool waters, sobbed desperately.

“You’ve been… different, since you got back,” Sky whispers tentatively, opening his eyes once more. There is nothing judgemental in that gaze, but it exposes him fully. His tone is too soft for how the words open a pit inside of Wild’s stomach. “I mean, of course you would be, you’ve been away for a year. But I feel like there’s something else.”
Wild doesn’t move. No one has confronted him yet on his behaviour. The worried looks from Twilight are endless, and Time had quietly pulled him aside to offer an ear should he need it, but he had not been directly asked about what happened.
He wonders if Sky will be the first.
“Did you lose someone?”

Summary
The absence of the familiar comfort is deeply felt, but it's hard to find a safe place to do it on the road. By himself, he could clear out a burrow somewhere and ward the doors, but he can't just wander off on his own anymore. For all that being with the Chain affords him a level of safety he's never experienced before, it also means hiding things.
A lot of things.
(or: Touch-starved, touch-averse Hyrule finds a suitable compromise. Too bad he can't tell anyone about it.)
