What do you think when you see Scott Smajor?
Strangers would see a pretty face. A charming smile and twinkling eyes, perfect hair, and the charisma to match it. It would be no surprise that he was voted "most likely to be a model" in high school.
Those who had seen him perform would look at him and remember talent. Talent too good for a community theater, even if it had the best department in the entire sprawling city. Or maybe they wouldn't see Scott, but rather one of the roles he had played and given so much life to.
His fellow classmates would recall his wit and social intelligence. The top psychology undergraduate in the school, full of potential. His silver tongue that could talk him in and out of every situation, the way he always knew what to do, the way he can stare you down and seem to read your soul.
His friends would look at him and think of his kindness. The way he would drop everything in a moment, the way he would sacrifice his happiness for their own. They would remember their past experiences with him fondly, and look forward to more to come.
When Scott Smajor looks in the mirror, all he can think about is how much he hates the person he sees.

The Codfather’s loose shirt is gone now, and while Scott certainly hadn’t expected that level of muscle definition, that isn’t what he’s focused on. Jimmy’s torso is littered with scars. They’re all over, some large and others tiny, some an aged white and others a shiny red. He gapes at them, confused—what had happened? Is the sea really that dangerous? He knows Jimmy’s clumsy, does it justify this?
“What happened to you?” he blurts out, and Jimmy turns to him, face a picture of confusion, before his eyes follow Scott’s gaze. Comprehension dawns and his face closes off.
“You know how it is,” he says coolly, and Scott is pretty sure he does not, in fact, know how it is.

The three have been trying to be excited about their graduation, but it feels almost mundane to be excited when Steve wouldn’t be there. They would be sat out on a football field in the blistering heat while waiting for their names to be called, with Dustin and Max in the crowd, cheering them on in Steve's place. There would be fake smiles plastered to all their faces, no matter how realistic they tried to make them.
None of them have genuinely smiled since Steve got Vecna'd.
Sixty-Five days. Steve had been in a coma for Sixty-Five days. The doctors keep telling The Party that it doesn't look good, that Steve's injures had been severe, and that they didn't know if, when, he would wake up.
But they refused to lose hope.
He'll wake up.
It's just a matter of time.

He felt tears fall down his face in a constant flow that should not have been possible. He cried out in pain, but was immediately silenced by a flow of black particles leaving Vecna's hand and making their way into his mouth. The pain he was experiencing increased by tenfold. He realized far too late that those black particles must have been the mindflayer. That thought flew away quickly, and was replaced with the agonizing pain of every part of his body succumbing to the control of the shadow monster and the monster before him.
