Danny’s face flashed through his mind again and he flinched. He couldn’t stop thinking about that moment Danny went over the cliff, his eyes wide and full of terror. He had looked at Ward, silently begging for help, and then he had been gone, his attacker falling after him a moment later.
Ward hadn’t even hesitated - he had shot the other attacker and ran to the cliff. By the time he had scrambled down to the fast-flowing river below, Danny was gone, only a hint of pink in the water suggested he had even been there in the first place.
He had spent hours searching up and down that river, not caring as he tore his skin to pieces, as he pushed himself to exhaustion. Eventually, when it had become too dark to continue searching, he had been forced to give up.
There was no sign of Danny. Either he had been washed down to the sea, miles away, or he had been picked up by the men who had been hunting them. Either way - Danny was gone.
He wanted a drink.

"Wha --" Colleen began, and then Danny obviously recognized her and took off from Ward's wrist in a whir of wings, scoring a trail of tiny claw marks across the back of Ward's hand, and grabbed onto the front of Colleen's hoodie and started licking her face with his long, pointy tongue.
Colleen flailed with a muffled shriek that Ward, who had already been the recipient of one of Danny's face-licking sessions, found very gratifying. He leaned on the door frame and waited until she managed to cope with the situation, holding Danny in both hands at arm's length.
"Ward," she said, and then, "What--" and then "Is this--" followed by, "Where."
"The Bronx, surprisingly," Ward said. "Nothing terribly mystical has ever happened to us there. I guess it was only a matter of time."

Summary
When Danny Rand goes missing while he and Ward are investigating the disappearance of homeless children, Ward goes to the only people he can think of that 1) know who Danny is besides a once missing billionaire and 2) are 99% more successful than the police at finding and rescuing people. He's more than a little surprised, and a little suspicious, and a LOT grateful that Matt isn't as dead as he was lead to believe.
Takes place post season 2 Iron Fist, and season 3 for Daredevil.

"Are you all right?" Colleen asked, in a matter-of-fact tone. Her blade never wavered.
"Fine," Ward said. He made himself straighten up. Strangely enough it was having Colleen there—not wanting his goddamn Hand bodyguard to see him curled over in pain—that made it easier to get his back straight and not give in to the nauseating ache. "I'm good."
He had sometimes fantasized about Harold's death: a speeding bus, a bolt of lightning to the penthouse, a sudden tragic collapse of the ceiling due to structural instability. Even in his own mind, he skirted around actually putting any culpability into his own hands. Maybe because patricide was one of the moral lines he hadn't crossed yet. Or maybe it was just that he didn't dare that level of rebellion even in his own head.
Now he caught himself wondering—terrible thought, wonderful thought—how far she'd actually go, if he asked her to.
He could actually be free. He was dizzy with the possibility of it.
Free of Dad, anyway. There was still the Hand to contend with. And that brought him crashing down to earth. Dad was still the lesser evil, when it came right down to it. This small woman with the katana was, in her way, more of a threat to him than Dad had ever been.
But she was standing between him and his dad. No one had ever done that before. Never.
