    Annabeth didn’t look at her. Annabeth often didn’t like look people in eye but usually, Percy had noticed, she would look at their face when they drew her attention.

    “….I can’t talk about it,” Annabeth eventually admitted. She didn’t sound happy about it. Of course, she wasn’t. Percy remembered what it had been like after they had gotten out. First, she had been angry she couldn’t tell Chiron about the future and then she had-

    Thalia inhaled sharply. Anger made her facial features twisted. “Why the fuck-“

    Percy cut off the moment she started cussing. “Don’t.”

    Thalia whirled her head to look at him. “This doesn’t have anything to do with you.”

    “If you cuss at her, I’m kicking you out of this car,” he threatened before breathing in through his nose. He didn’t bother counting in his head to try and calm down; it never worked. This did have to do with him. Everything, unfortunately, about this had to do with him; if the gods had never gotten ahold of that book then Annabeth and him wouldn’t know Bianca and Nico were children of Hades. They wouldn’t have known-

    If anyone here should be a narrator it should have been Luke. Luke wasn’t a kid. He wasn’t new to this demi-god thing. He was-

    “The snake haired ladies were starting to annoy Percy. They should have three days ago when he dropped a crate of bowling balls on them at Napa Bargain Mart. They should have died two days ago when he ran them over with a police car in Martinez. They definitely should have died this morning when he cut off their heads in Tidden Park. No matter how many times Percy killed them and watched them crumble to powder, they just kept reforming like large evil dust bunnies.

    The description of crumble to powder was familiar. “They’re like Mrs.Dodds,” Percy said out loud. He felt cold because unlike Mrs.Dodds they didn’t stay dead. How was his future self managing to keep killing them? Percy managed to kill Mrs.Dodds out of sheer luck and with Mr.Brunner having given him a pen that wasn’t just a pen.

    “They’re monsters like Mrs.Dodds.” Grover began to explain and Percy should be thankful for Grover giving him answers but Percy couldn’t help but feel a bit angry.

    “So you admit there was a Mrs.Dodds.”

    Grover looked as though Percy had kicked him in the ribs.

Thoughts of laying low in this new life is torn apart as he learns of just how terrible a world can be when power is left to the hands of selfish humans. Of the games where children are sacrificed.     And there was a good chance Apollo would kill him; while Percy wasn’t an expert at Greek mythology, he did know about a time where a guy got killed Artemis because Apollo had tricked his sister into killing-

    Apollo raised a hand. Percy didn’t step back; to do so was admit he was prey. He brushed a strand of Percy’s hair behind his ear. His touch was warm - warmer than a human touch would have been. It wasn’t burning hot though which probably meant something.

    “What are your intentions towards my sister?”

    Intentions towards my sister; Apollo really did sound his age when he said stuff like that.

    Percy shot the god a look. “Nothing.”

    Apollo raised a blonde eyebrow, unimpressed. “People who saying nothing are guilty children who don’t want the adults nearby to know what they’ve done, people who don’t have a vocabulary to explain themselves, and liars.” The god tilted his head then. “Which are you?”

    There was no heat to his words. Whatever anger Zeus felt, it wasn’t directed at Percy. The grief the god was going through wasn’t from Percy’s actions; he had done everything he could have to save Thalia.

    “I could have avoided it by killing Ida a few years ago.” Percy pointed out. He didn’t have to reply to Aaron’s comment; it wasn’t a question. Percy wanted to though.

    Aaron turned his head partially to the side. “Ida but not Lily?”

    Percy’s teeth dug into his cheek. To answer in anything other than English was to acknowledge something Percy didn’t want Aaron to know. The thing was he didn’t have the luxury to take time and think over the best response. “Last I checked, Lily can’t curse me to tell the truth. Killing her wouldn’t avoided this.”

    It was an honest answer. To avoid this situation, Percy would have needed-
