Summary
Following the War of Humans and Monsters, both belligerents agreed that a second war would be too devastating, instead opting to coexist peacefully.
Centuries later, tensions run high, and the two kingdoms are on the brink of war once more. The unlikely duo of Frisk and Chara, heirs to the throne of the Human and Monster Kingdoms respectively, must learn to set aside their differences and cooperate to prevent another calamitous war (amidst backstabbing, dubious ruses, and similar malefaction), lest they face total annihilation.
And try not to kill each other, of course. Though, that's sort of one-sided.

After being missing for far too long, you reunite with Frisk. But they aren't alone and the world has to come to terms with the existence of monsters. Fighting alongside Frisk as co-ambassador to monsters, you start to notice things. Like how Frisk has not only grown mentally but seems to be keeping something from you (Not that you are any better, everyone has skeletons in their closet), or how attached to 'goat mama' they are...
Or how it seems every time that you see a skeleton, your heart starts to pound and your hands get sweaty and your head feels weird and - oh god, how many skeletons are living with you?!

Chara suffers, a lot, a lot lot. If you like Chara suffering (in a non-buttercup way) this is a good one, also good underfell/Caretaker read as well.Read the tags, do note of the warnings that are posted.
Underfell + caretaker mashup, so for context those who don’t know:
Underfell - monsters are mean and cruel, murder is common
Caretaker - Chara is the caretaker of the ruinsAfter Chara suffers a lot under Asgore, Toriel takes Chara to the ruins, everyone assumes Chara is dead. Asriel is alive and is currently king.
To qoute, "50,000 words about Chara being tortured and adopting a kid."Chara is the caretaker of the ruins, all the children under their care left, only to get killed.
Frisk falls into the underground. No saving, no resets, mainly ruins focused but Frisk does go on the underground journey.
Good read, just ouch poor Chara though, Also Asriel should really go jump off a cliff here, like actually.

Their father left when they were young and their mother hates them, making it very clear that she blames them for everything wrong in her life. But after events lead them to the Underground, where the real monsters live, they'll find that maybe being a monster isn't so bad. Maybe it's even better than being human. After all these monsters are a better family than their human one ever was.
