Summary
Merlin moved to Camelot as a child with his mother to escape being hunted in Ealodr. On his first night he bumps into an arrogant, pompous, no good golden prince who threatens him with a sword. When Uther pulls him away and bans Merlin from ever coming near his son again, Merlin knows they are destined to be friends.
The boys keep their friendship hidden from the public and grow up together, learning from each other in ways no one else could understand. It was all running smoothly… until Merlin had to save his life using magic, and accidentally cementing his place as Arthur’s manservant. Now the boys have to hide that they even know each other, Merlin’s magic, and any other feelings that may get in the way as they try to guide Camelot into a golden age.OR
Merlin and Arthur meet as boys and grow up together as mates secretly. Eventually Arthur realises that feeling the way he does about Merlin isn’t how a friend should feel and Merlin is obviously clueless. They’re both clumsy idiots and apparently, stupid boys.

“You’re doing an amazing thing here,” Lancelot said apropos of nothing as he handed Merlin a nail.
“It’s hardly amazing,” Merlin scoffed, concentrating on fixing the wooden beam in place. “I used to fix my mother’s roof all the time when I was little.”
“I mean here.” Lancelot gestured back to the house. “These children would have nowhere to go if you didn’t take them in.”
“Oh I don’t really do much,” Merlin said with a wave of his hand. “I just pop by every now and then to say hello. Mary does all the work.”
Merlin concentrated back on the roof. Anything not to look into Lancelot’s proud and warm eyes.He couldn’t explain to wonderful, pure Lancelot why he didn’t deserve any praise. Taking in these children, helping them to grow up safe and fed, it was the least he could do after all the destruction he had caused in Camelot.

He thinks that if he spoke to time she would pause for him, would allow him to steal him away— He is aging; Merlin would tell her; I can see it in each new day, each new wrinkle, each new smile. Let him take me with him, this time. Do not leave me to hold silent vigil over his cooling corpse and his bones that will be bleached by the very sun that bathes him now. “Oh- Gaius! Good morning. Oh, nothing,” Merlin laughed, pausing in his task to wave his hand. “You wouldn’t have happened to see a tiny, little dragon wood carving laying around, have you?”
