“I-...” Dan stuttered, avoiding eye contact as he mulled over the question, he knew the answer and it made him sick to his stomach.
After Herbert's trial proceedings had ended, and that era of his life was well behind him, Dan started a new life.
But after nearly two decades of separation, Dan spots someone in his town who seems disgustingly familiar. He doesn't want to fall into old routines but, god, how couldn't he?Update: I hated how rushed their relationship felt in this fic so I abandoned it. I'm working on other stuff right now, but in the future I am going to rewrite this fic. So expect that In a couple of months if you were a fan of it.

#Reanimatemas Day 5: Sweaters
Middle-Aged Danbert fluff (takes place after Beyond Reanimator)

Dan had all sorts of warm clothes; thick thermal under-shirts, cardigans, hoodies, and horrendously ugly sweaters in every color. Herbert considered the choices laid before him with clinical scrutiny.
The winter season had always affected Dan; his sentimentality and superficial need for ‘normalcy’ latching onto the familiar traditions of Christmastime. Recently, one of the couples from down the road had invited them to a Christmas potluck, and Dan had not-so-subtly suggested that Herbert should try wearing a Christmas sweater.
The offending item was currently stuffed at the back of their shared wardrobe, the sewn on pom-poms and bright candy-cane pattern hidden from view.

Summary
Getting the chance to actually run away somewhere nice is a one in a life time shot for the likes of Herbert West and Daniel Cain. Beggars can't be choosers normally, unless they've planned in advance for a little get away. Though tensions can easily bubble over as Dan insists that Herbert keep his little projects on the down low, and you can't just do that to a mind that is constantly over flowing with ideas.
