    At first it was just a tangle of cloth, sodden and clinging to itself, streaked through with dark red patches. Then he saw blond hair, matted with blood, skin waxy and cold, littered with bruises blooming across flesh like grotesque flowers.

    “Man overboard!” Tubbo’s voice split the silence.

    Instinct slammed into action; Techno ripped the heavy captain’s coat from his shoulders, thrusting it into Wilbur’s arms. He climbed onto the wooden railing and then, with a powerful push from his legs, Techno launched himself off the taffrail, body arcing through the air, arms outstretched.

    The cold struck the instant he hit the water, but he kicked hard, pushing himself to the boy. Techno was close now, though his body rocked dangerously, threatening to slip beneath. Techno saw how the cloth stuck to the boy’s chest, how shallowly it rose and fell. Alive, then. Barely.

    —or, Tommy’s betrayal to the Royal Navy forces him to walk the plank, only to be saved from death by Technoblade, the new captain of The Syndicate, the most feared pirates on the seven seas.     Dream tilted his head. “Nothing? Are you lying to me, Tommy?”

    “No-never! I’d never do that big D!” Tommy tried laughing, but he broke out into sobs instead. Dream stood over him without saying a word.

    “Well, I was going to let you keep your stuff today, since I thought I could trust you.” He gestured to the soft dirt ground. “But apparently not.”

    “Hold on- of course you can trust me- I’m-”

    “Put your stuff in the hole, Tommy.”

    Or. Tommy isn’t taking exile very well, and there are too many visitors for him to handle.

Stray wind blows right through him, penetrating right through to the bones. His eyes hurt as he fights to stay awake, even though the moon has barely risen just yet.

    “And it’s just… everyone says they should visit more, and they don’t!” Tommy sighs, eyes blinded by the raging fire.

    Dream sighs, lips betraying a smile, “Everyone lies to you like that?”

    “I don’t believe you for a second,” the villager said with a scoff. “Reviving the dead? You, a god? That’s the most preposterous thing I’ve heard in all my years.”

    “Oh? You don’t believe me?” Dream smiled. “That’s okay, I’m more than willing to give you all a demonstration. Tommy,” he called, gesturing to the blond.

    Tommy knew exactly what was going to happen, and he knew that there was no point in resisting, for it’d be over quicker if he gave up and went along with it (and if he struggled he’d really just be making a fool of himself). So he walked over to Dream, quietly, obediently, and stood facing the crowd. At least his death would be quick this time, he thought, as he shut his eyes and felt the cool of metal against his neck. One slash, and the world went dark.

     

    Or: Tommy didn’t originally plan to hit the water when he jumped off the tower in Logsted, so he hit the ground instead. Dream decides that’s as good a time as any to test out the revival book, and upon succeeding, decides he’s a god and it’s high time he gained some followers.

    after the whispers of dream's escape had spread across the server, there had arisen a discussion on whether or not he deserved to be locked up again. and, lo and behold, a trial date was set, requiring every server member to attend, and attached to the letter was a consent form, one for a truth serum that sam had concocted, just to ensure that there were no lies being told.

    tommy didn't want to go, not at all. it was hard enough to hear about dream, to think about the person who had stolen so much of his life from him, let alone having to face him and tell everyone about all that dream had done to him.

    but he had no choice, not if he wanted dream to be locked up again, so he had to attend, and he had to be honest.

    [ or : a fic in which tommy is put on the stand under the effects of a truth serum, and the horrors of exile and dream's inhumane treatment is revealed to the entire server. ]
