welcome to my alive gabriel goodman au!
everything's pretty similar to the n2n canon (with the london cast in mind), except that gabe survives. diana and dan managed to find doctors that caught the obstruction in time to save gabe's life, but not quick enough to leave him entirely unscatched. gabe struggles with chronic illness symptoms daily, including extreme abdominal pain, low blood pressure, headaches and migraines, dizziness, shakiness, etc. which in turn leads to the canon of natalie being left out by her parents often.
natalie is born, not to replace gabe this time, and they're the best siblings. henry is still your lovable stoner. dan still struggles with ignoring gabe sometimes and dealing with his son. diana still struggles with bipolar.
this will mostly just be a bunch of oneshots surrounding the characters in this universe! hope you enjoy <3

“They just couldn’t leave me alone!” I leaned against the fireplace, enjoying the warmth on my bare skin. The dress had left my arms and most of my shoulders bare, something that those appendages had not experienced in my time in Middle Earth. But the fire was not assuaging the pain in my heart.
Thorin drew level with me and leaned against the fireplace himself. “We were at a banquet, Ann. Would… would you have preferred to remain in your seat? Simply… amongst my people such a thing would be unheard of.”
“Yeah but there was no reason to taunt me!”
Thorin looked between me and the fire.
“They kept talking and talking… saying horrible things….”
Thorin gently took my hand that was leaning on the fireplace and led me away. “Ann, how much drink were you given this evening?”
I laughed. “Well I wouldn’t have needed it if the guys had kept the mouths shut!”
Thorin seemed at a total loss. “What did they say? Ann, I can ensure they never say it again.”
I gasped. “It’s worse than all my aunts! ‘When’s your wedding, Ann?’ They ask. ‘Are you dating anyone?’ Like can’t they just leave me alone? Like it’s okay that nobody will ever want to marry me, but I don’t need it rubbed in my face!”
Something about that statement visibly triggered Thorin. “What?”
“I know I’m not pretty! I know that guys don’t want me, and that’s fine! I just don’t need to be reminded all the time!”
“Who told you that?” gasped Thorin.
“That I’m too fat… way too big for someone to love me.”
The depth of anger on Thorin’s face stopped me in my tirade. He squared himself to me and grasped my shoulders. “Ann, I need you to listen closely: who told you these things? I need to know who has been saying these things to you.”
As quickly as the moment came, it went. I threw his arms off me. “Nobody had to tell me anything, Thorin! I’m smart enough to figure it out on my own. No dates… no calls… apps are useless… they always find someone else! They find a girl whose actually pretty… blonde… perfect… and leave me at the bus station!”
“What?”
“Because I’m just not good enough. Never have been never will… and that’s fine.”
Thorin’s face contorted into horror, agony and guilt. But I was nowhere near ready to slow down.
“It’s FINE that I’m not pretty enough for them,” I snapped. “I’m FINE being one of the guys. I don’t need to be pretty… don’t need to be good enough. BUT I DO need for everyone to STOP REMINDING ME!”
The room began to spin and I felt my legs give out beneath me. I’m still not sure whether it was all the alcohol coursing in my system or my emotions crashing in, or where one ended and the other began, but I gave out a strangled sob as I felt gravity pull.
But suddenly Thorin was there. He grabbed me and held me to himself in an embrace. He rubbed my back, successfully holding me up physically and trying to be a support emotionally. But as his fingers made contact with my bare skin, it only made me cry all the harder. Just another reminder of what I’d never have. Stop Ann! Happy, Ann… but this time, I couldn’t. I was too far gone to rebound. I sobbed into Thorin’s shoulder, slowly losing myself in my misery. I had no way to even comprehend what he thought of all of this except the words he spoke as he continued to stroke the skin between my shoulder blades.
“You truly do believe these things,” he gasped, more to himself than to me. “You truly do believe these horrible things.”
