Summary

“I don’t know,” Shauna said, shaking her head and looking at the ground.
“It’s because they’re ungrateful,” Jackie whispered, punctuating the last word with a sharp nod as she stepped closer to Shauna.
“No–they’re just… Lottie has them all under like, a spell or something. You should have seen them before I… before I passed out…” Shauna shook her head sharply.
“Why do you even want to be their leader? Remember what you d–remember what they did to me?” Jackie stuttered. “They would turn on you, too. You don’t want it, Shauna. You don’t want to be their leader,” Jackie’s voice was lowering to a whisper.
“You think they’re… ungrateful?” She asked. Strands of Jackie’s hair were frozen in stiff clumps, but the snowflakes that landed on her disappeared instantly.
“They are,” she said. “We don’t need them. You don’t need them.” Jackie said.-

In this battle of stubborn human psychiatrist versus stubborn alien soldier, it is unclear what the end prize actually is. But neither will back down until they find out. Unfortunately, they have plenty to fight over as The Sentinel faces assaults and betrayals back to back, just a few months into deployment.
