    “An L1R1-class hypersonic transport,” Callaghan finished for her. “Hundred-thirty-five-tons, anywhere on Earth in under eight hours; one-hundred-and-six-million dollars new, each. And that’s excluding the payload, or the loss in revenue caused by the operational lack of one, which I’m sure, as someone so perceptive, you noticed."

    The incident on the island triggers many discussions at Universal Dynamics; this is one of the last.

    New generations were born, and Roz helped to raise each one of them, giving them her knowledge both of human and animal living. She loved to help little ones grow, loved seeing how they changed and came into their own. She spent most of her time in The Nest, where families of all shapes and sizes would bring their children to learn from the wild robot.

    Brightbill was flight leader for a long time. He lead 20 migrations before he began to grow weak, having to pass the job to a younger goose who would carry on the tradition for years to come. Finally, one year, Brightbill declared that he would not be traveling with the flock that winter.

    “If I leave, I do not think I will ever return to this island, and I would like to see the spring here one last time if I can.”

All the other animals usually kept a large berth away from this place and them, barring Pinktail and her kids and sometimes Paddler. Brightbill feels like he should be more grateful that everyone cares about Roz so much now that they’re willing to help rebuild his home and he knows he should be happy because the other animals like them now but...

    But Roz was leaving for who knows how long soon. So he wasn’t sure how to feel about anything anymore.
