Summary
Sam was different in a way that made people rush out of his way, never mind that he would never — could never — hurt them. Different in a way that made him miss his dad saying, "No kiddo, nothing's wrong with you, you're just built to be the coolest guy in the room." He'd wink and continue, "Don't worry. You'll get it someday." Except, well, his dad had been gone for 20 years and he was starting to think that someday wasn't coming. He was different, and the screaming at the base of his skull wasn't getting any better with age. Something was broken and hurt, but maybe the hidden staircase at the back of the arcade was the key to fixing it.
Basically: Sam's actually a program. He would know that, if the only one who had known was around to tell him.

"Aviation is a system built on acronyms. "It wasn’t very often that a god thanked him. It usually took him going on a quest, or, you know, saving the world again. But this hadn’t been a quest, it had just been him finding an eight-year-old half-blood starving in a cold NYC winter and choosing to bring her to camp. Sad, yes, that she had suffered so much at such a young age, but it wasn’t particularly unusual for Percy to pick up stray demigods, so it wasn’t something that he would expect to earn a godly 'thank you.' And certainly not from the god that still couldn’t be bothered to call him the correct name 99% of the time."
Basically, Dionysus is being weirdly friendly to Percy. Or, he's trying to be. It's not quite working.

After all, he hadn’t been the first to suggest that they stole from the Hutts, and they had already decided that that path was too risky. 'No no, you don’t understand,' he replied. 'Most species are made primarily of water. We would only need to find a way to gather it.'"
The human body is about 60% water. This is an important fact for moisture farmers, who have to collect all the water they can and get it to those who really need it.

Summary
This series is Faramir-centric, in an AU where Faramir is secretly the illegitimate son of Aragorn. In the course of writing the first main story about Faramir and Aragorn beginning to work together before they knew about this relationship (Beginnings & Endings), I rather got derailed into developing a bunch of other characters, which is where most of the stories come from. It is entirely my intention to return to finish Beginnings & Endings.
Please note that, currently, many of the stories in the DH AU include spanking, or some element of corporal punishment, in at least one chapter. If you would rather read stories without spanking or corporal punishment, most of my DH AU stories are re-written to exclude all of that in the Desperate Hours Alternate Universe Gen Version, available here: https://archiveofourown.org/series/16409 under my SusanaR main pseudonym.
Below in the notes I have listed the major distinctions from, and certain elaborations on, the canon of Tolkien's Legendarium, for purposes of this AU, which I am calling the Desperate Hours alternate universe (DH AU).
