A saiyan that looks just like... you.
Thrown into battle alongside him and his friends, you're pulled deeper into another world with an odd earring you carry. It seems to have dragged you into alternate universes of the original timeline as well.
But in those dimensions, you fight against foes that don't exist in your timeline. Facing enemies, both old and new, you're being admired in the process. Friends, rivals, and even foes who are drawn to you from different timelines.
But at the same time, you ponder on how and why you're here. Is it because of this earring?

“You actually listened to me back then?” she giggled, before coming to some sort of epiphany.
“Hold up! Are you telling me you’ve tried being a gentleman all this time?” she asked.
Since she had drawn the wrong conclusion, Vegeta would set the record straight for her.
Faster than she could follow his movements, he shot up from his seat to stand across from her. He trapped her by placing his hands on the kitchen counter behind her, her hips bumping against his inner-forearms. She drew in a sharp breath, pushing her chest out, and stared at him with her big, blue eyes.
“I assure you, I’ve been trying no such thing,” he growled.

Summary

Drawing from all corners of the Dragon Ball universe, Saiyan Soul has deadly battles, world-building across the cosmos, and a character-focused narrative with a focus on (unsurprisingly) the Saiyans.

Summary
While the threat of the androids looms ever closer, Piccolo finds himself frustrated with Chichi's insistence on Gohan's studies when he could be using that time to train. What doesn't help is Goku's refusal to deny Chichi's, in Piccolo's opinion, unreasonable wishes.
What he comes to understand, however, is that the Sons, the protectors of Earth, are also a family—a fact many seem to forget.

Future Trunks returns to his time to defeat the androids. He manages to destroy 17 without much trouble, but an accident deletes all of 18's memories and programming. Reluctantly, Trunks decides to have his mother reprogram her to be a defender of the earth since there are so few left. After her reprogramming, 18 at first assumes that Trunks is her boyfriend. When she discovers this is not the case, she decides to change that and begins seducing the young saiyan. Still holding a grudge against 18, Trunks tries to ignore her advances, but it gets increasingly difficult. To complicate things further, several villains that had not appeared in the Mirai timeline arrive. Trunks and 18 are the earth's last line of defense.

One he never believes possible. He begins to realize his ties to Earth are stronger than before and his need for escape has waned. Perhaps selfish desires aren’t everything if it means to be utterly alone in the end.

During Covid isolation in the summer of 2020, I returned to the Dragon Ball fandom after reading LongLoveVegeta’s First Kiss doujinshi. Moved by its tenderness and restraint, I began curating a Vegebul music playlist that has lived with me ever since. This story was formerly titled Songs of Vegebul. I have renamed it Running Up That Hill as it has grown beyond its playlist roots. Told in chronological order and faithful to the spirit of the original Japanese manga, it traces Bulma and Vegeta through the silences and the spaces canon leaves unseen. Each chapter is shaped by a song, not as soundtrack, but as lens. From uneasy cohabitation at Capsule Corp, through fragile years of peace, to betrayal, loss, and renewal. This is a story of exile, resistance, reluctant intimacy, and the long, uncertain road to wholeness.
