      Ch1

      “I can’t… make it.”

      Legend didn't answer. He simply got a better grip on the old man's arm and waist, dragging him from spite alone. That bastard wasn't going to die on his watch.

      They just had to find Hyrule or anyone else who still had some potions left. Better, a fairy.

      “Vet-”

      “Shut up.”

      “Can you… tell Malon…”

      “No, you'll tell her yourself. Do I look like a postman?”

      Time sighed, but whether it was from exasperation or
      -
      I've had worse, my ass! Shouldn't have wasted your last potion on me,” he ranted, if only to fill it, but he couldn't help his voice breaking near the end.

      “That's… not a… waste.”

      His eyes’ widened. So, not incoherent just yet, then. He shouldn’t be taken aback; them heroes were tough, but they still each had their limits- something he was uncomfortably aware of at the moment. Legend opened his mouth to retort, but a wolf cry made him clamp down before a word was out. With one hand, he took hold of his fire rod- it would be more effective than his sword in his position, even if he was also low on magic.

      “Y’think this is Wolfie? Or more trouble?”

      All jokes about taking their sweet time died away on the heroes’ lips when the sight of the crying Veteran leaning over their too-pale leader and singing frantically greeted the group of heroes. A few seconds after, the ‘pop’ of a bottle resounded loudly in the near-silence surrounding them, and a fairy swiftly headed towards the Hero of Time.

      “…Stay with me-”

      An alarmed tinkling came out of the little one as she began twirling. No one could bring themselves from breaching the song with any sound or movement, and the tension racked them all. The old man couldn’t just… die, could he?

      “By my side-”

      The fairy turned around the fallen hero one last time before flying away. They all held their breath, wondering if they had been too late- fairies could do quite the miracles, but how long had he been..?

      “Never leave-”

      Whether it was or not the last lyrics of the song, the words died out there. The pink-haired hero clang to the old man, who had regained a little colour- but there was no sign of movements.

      Then, a raspy voice murmured, “I’m not… going anywhere.”

      i was supposed to leave it as an ambiguous ending but... yes. also why it might end a lil' abruptly, oopsie.

    Little do they know just how comfortable he really is in water.

    It’s just his luck that after that’s all said and done, one of Wind's era's monsters seems adamant to disturb him as well. It, and the strange combat-versed Zora that seems oddly familiar.

    “What do you mean, ‘I walked’?” Legend says incredulously.

    The traveller frowns at the two of them. Slowly, he gestures at his feet. Once they are looking there, he walks a few paces forward and then points at the river.

    Time opened his eye to a world on fire. The bittersweet smell of smoke forced its way into his lungs, and he coughed. Above him, where the roof used to be, was the moon, just as terrible and big as it had been in Termina. It filled Time’s vision.
    “Oh, thank Hylia you’re awake.”
    Time reluctantly peeled his eye from the giant red one in the sky and looked at the person in front of him. Warriors. His blond hair swayed gently in the breeze. The plate armor reflected the red light. His blue scarf was slightly torn by the hem. In his hand was a sword, ready to defend them both if needed. Time thought Warriors looked more like the typical storybook hero than Time ever had.

    Ten different versions of how the Chain met. The first nine chapters will feature a story in which eight of the Links meet their last member. The last one will feature a story about how all of them meet at once. Title may be subject to change.

    Hyrule narrowed his eyes. "Fungus. I was going to say fungus."

    Legend snorted. "Coward."

    "Not in front of the kid."

    "The sailor's asleep. Besides, he says it at least ten times a day. I doubt hearing you say it will make it any worse than it already is."

    "It's still not a good habit to get into."

    "Fuck, you're right," Legend responded, pretending to seriously consider it. Hyrule rolled his eyes.

Taken completely off-guard by the brutal slap, Warriors stumbled and went crashing in a heap to the ground. His hand came up to gingerly cradle his bruising cheek as he looked up at Legend with dazed, betrayed eyes.
