    Scar creeps closer to where he can feel Cub. He doesn’t want to think the worst, he’s trying not to. But if it isn’t the worst, then Cub deserves to get a fright for scaring him like this anyway. Oh, Scar’s gonna get him but good if Cub did this for his own amusement!

    So Scar is silent, he’s sneaky, he’s so close.

    Close enough to hear Grian call out, bringing Cub to his side in an instant. Cub. In his full Vex aspect, wings and tail visible, skin pale, eyes glowing. Cub, floating beside Grian at attention, expression loose.

    Close enough to hear Grian’s words.

    “Good Vex.”

    Scar’s wide, stricken eyes unable to look away from Grian petting Cub’s hair, Grian feeding purple magic sparks into Cub’s skin, into Cub’s wings, making Cub shiver into brighter glow with a satisfied lazy grin and a completely empty gaze.

    Scar bolts.

    Summary

    Grian had been transformed into a Watcher, but he wants nothing to do with them.

    Scott doesn't want to step up to his godly duties, and wants to be the player that he'll never fully be able to be.

    Xisuma steps up to be an admin despite his past constantly threatening to rip him apart in more ways than one.

    This is a compilation of stories that connects the different Life Series with Hermitcraft, and Empires into one storyline, through too many POVs. The series is in chronological order of what to read, but posting the rest of the series may take a while to do.

    It had been two weeks since they’d taken him off of the streets, dragging him kicking and screaming away from Pearl and Jimmy and Martyn and BigB, binding his wings and forcing him to be their personal servant and punching bag. And yeah, being homeless and not knowing whether you’d survive the night was bad. But at least he was free! He could spread his wings as much as he wanted, he could move around without at least two pairs of eyes on him, he wasn’t chained in a freezing dark basement when he wasn’t wanted.
    Needless to say, he was not happy about these conditions.

    That BAMF Grian tag is doing a lot of heavy lifting here, so if an absurdly cracked protag is not your vibe, this probably isn't your jam. If that is your kind of protag, then welcome to the Kept Bird AU! What you need to know for this series is that Scar is an Emperor, and Grian is his concubine/plaything // head strategist // assassin. At court Grian is the head-empty sex toy that's just sitting pretty at Scar's feet (brain sharp and cataloging all the people that petition his emperor), in private he's Scar's lover and his chief strategist (nobody besides Scar ever sees the imperial chief strategist - wonder why), and at night he's known as the Black Falcon for how silently and precisely he strikes (all at Scar's whim of course).

    "He's not. Here." Cub says.

    "I noticed." Grian arches an eyebrow.

    "He's not here." Cub repeats.

    Now Grian falters, his good cheer cracking a little. "He went out hours ago. I think. A while, anyway. Are you sure you didn't just miss him getting in?"

    Cub stares flatly at Grian.

    Debriefings, meetings with his advisors to keep abreast of his own kingdom’s goings on. It takes a toll on King Grian. It wears him down. He has magic for days- well, more like for months now, he could technically keep running on magic-not-sleep for a near indefinite amount of time, but for some reason the people close to him don’t like when he does that. Something about the look in his eyes.

    Grian hadn’t realized he’d zoned out in the middle of undressing after a long day following too many other long days, until steady hands had started to strip away his ceremonial robes. Grian allows this. It’s nice not to deal with the heavy, stiff fabrics and multiple layers himself.
