Arthur nodded thoughtfully. If Merlin didn’t want him to know something, it was probably important.
“Gaius, huh,” he mused. “I don’t know a Gaius.” But even as he said it there was something buried way down below, prickling at his memory.

Summary
Arthur has always had distant dreams of leaving Camelot. They were never more than a wistful fantasy, at least once he grew up.
Finding out about Merlin’s magic changes everything though, and not only because Arthur would do more to keep Merlin safe than he cares to admit. What follows are secrets upon secrets, allowing the dreams to slip back in as all his father’s lies unravel around him. Slowly but surely, Camelot feels less like a home and more like a gilded cage, and Arthur isn’t so certain anymore whether he’s the right person to carry this legacy. If he even wants to.
One final secret, one opportunity, and suddenly the dreams aren’t mere dreams anymore. Merlin wouldn’t be Merlin if he didn’t follow wherever Arthur goes, and as they try to outrun Uther’s manhunt for them, they have to learn to live a life that’s about more than duty, other’s expectations, and a destiny that has never once cared for them.
Or: Arthur long since expected that one day, he might have to flee Camelot with Merlin. He just never thought that he would be the reason.

Summary
Merlin is a just common servant in Camelot. Everyone in Ealdor knows it. But then, why are a bunch of very strong looking knights clapping him on the back and sitting around the fire in his mother’s home? And is that a crown embroidered on one of their capes?
Inspired by That’s His Name by ZiaraA, this story follows Merlin in Ealdor if he were much more careful about revealing his station near the king. The Ealdor episode did not happen in this AU and this is before the last episode’s magic reveal.

She gathered the fabric of her kirtle in her hands. “Balinor,” she said, looking away. The side of her face that remained facing him was spotted with old, familiar scars, mottling her eyebrow into patches and making her right ear small with ruin. The skin was dragged like rivers over her cheekbone and jaw, a little pale and tough. Merlin loved her, loved this face, though he knew it disgusted the town. But, for the first time, Merlin reckoned he knew just how this had happened to her, just whose fire this was.
And if that Balinor was alive, and Merlin ever happened upon him, Merlin would kill the son of a bitch. -

Summary
Merlin gazed sadly at the view.
The wind carried a scent never found in Camelot—that of wet grass after the rain, of smoke from the fireplaces mingling with the morning mist. Merlin closed his eyes for a moment.
It took so little for the memory to strike him: Ealdor.
There was a peace in that name he could no longer find. He remembered the rolling hills stretching to the horizon, the laughter of children chasing geese, his mother's voice calling him from the doorway, the laughter shared with Will, at the expense of their fellow villagers.
Everything seemed simpler then, even the effort.

The visitor pulls his hood back. Not a magical being then. Just a man; a man not much older than her, dark eyes and lines etched into his face. Despite herself, she can’t help finding familiarity in the curve of his jaw, the depths of his dark eyes. His mouth falls open; he looks at he can’t quite believe she is real. Something stirs inside her and in all honesty, she is afraid.
“Hello Hunith.” his voice is soft, almost musical in its quality. He takes care with the vowels, her name lands gently on his tongue.
A second passes by. A bird caws in the distance.
Then realisation hits her, a winter storn blasting over a field.
