    Steve wasn’t sure what to expect. He had already made his opinions on this whole PR team thing pretty crystal clear. He wasn’t sure if he was surprised or not when Pepper Potts gave him a small, amused smile and handed him a small stack of carefully labeled file folders.

    “It’s for the best, Steve,” she had said patiently. “Either SHIELD handles the entirety of your public image for you, or we get a step ahead and let you have at least some control over the situation.”

    Despite knowing that she was absolutely correct--he had little doubt that SHIELD would be more than happy to continue shaping his persona the same way they had done for the last seven decades--Steve couldn’t bring himself to be pleased with the concept. Why couldn’t he just speak for himself?

    In the beginning, God made the heavens and the earth. And then God made humans. Some he made Alpha, some Beta, some Omega. There were some that he made for each other. Some were born to gravitate to one another, their hands made to hold, their hearts to love. Sometimes it wasn’t always easy, some loved and lost, or lost before they could love. Some were nudged towards each other as infants and ripped away as soon as adults realized they were two halves of one whole. Some lives are so intertwined, that if one died, it would be too cruel to not let them both go.

    Whatever God had made, it wasn’t what the world had taken it to be. In 2011, the frozen body of Captain America was found in the depths of the Arctic, hauled out and thawed. The world waited with baited breath for their favorite hero to smile in thanks for having been saved. The world waited. And waited. Captain America never thanked them. Steve Rogers, who would have rathered stayed dead, cursed them.

    In 1945, just a few months after the death of Bucky Barnes, Steve Rogers drove the Valkyrie into the ice without a second thought because it was the end of the line. Not because he was a brave Alpha, but because he was a grieving Omega.

The two of them manage to carve out their own moments of happiness, despite the fighting raging on around them. It doesn't last thought. Nothing does. Less than a year later, the war rips them apart. Bucky falls off the train, and half of Steve's heart goes with him.

    In 2014, Steve finds himself half a world and nearly a century away from everything that he’s lost. And for all the good that the future holds, Steve still misses Bucky like a lost limb. He’s a little lost, and a lot lonely, but he makes do. And then comes the night of Pierce's party, and suddenly everything that Steve thought he'd lost is right in front of him. The connection to his past. The chance at a life he never had. His mate. It's everything Steve ever wanted and everything he never dreamed he could have. It's perfect.

    Now if only Bucky felt the same.

    But he does have his memories, thank god. Even when he is eventually deprived of those, he has glimpses of a smile and still momentary flashbacks of their life together.
    After all those years of saving Steve's tiny ass, he was hoping, even without really knowing it, that Steve would come and save him.

    “This is a stupid plan.” Natasha warns through the phone pressed to your ear.

    “What on Earth is wrong with you people?” You stress, much to Natasha dismay, “This is a great plan.”

    You hear Sam’s echoing sigh through the speaker and you fight back a snigger, “You’re only saying that because it’s your damn plan.”

    “Exactly, and I’m a genius,” You reply, fishing around clumsily in the glove box for your ID card, “I expect this to be taken into account when I apply to be an Avenger.”

    “I keep telling you, you’re not going to be an Avenger.” Natasha says, voice stern and clipped at the edges.

    “I’ll fly away in the suit myself and leave you all here, don’t test me.”

Winter has loved Bucky since Azzano, suffered with him at Hydra's hands, and Winter alone retained the memory of Bucky's identity and their relationship after each painful memory wipe. Now that they've escaped, Bucky and Winter just want the freedom to enjoy being safe, happy, and in love.

    When "in love" comes to include devoted couple Steve Rogers and Tony Stark, Bucky and Winter will need to open up about what Winter really is, what Bucky has become, and what the two of them can do together.
