I begin to weave in and out of the alleyways, around buildings, and finally ended up out on a street. It seemed pretty empty, but I also didn’t see hide or hair of the Hollow. That didn’t mean I was out of the woods yet though. Huffing, I continued jogging down the road, checking over my shoulder every few seconds to make sure I wasn’t being followed.
Of course, it’s during one of these moments, that I trip over my own feet and practically face plant into a puddle. My knees and hands stung as I tried to catch myself, luckily not smacking my face on the ground. Hissing in pain, I slowly push myself up and shakily stand, brushing off the pebbles stuck in my hands before doing the same to my knees. I could see the scraps already beginning to well with blood, some of it being washed away with the rain.
The feeling of the rain no longer hitting me sent ice in my veins, head whipping up–
Only to see a man in an apron standing over me holding an umbrella. He was the guy that worked with Urahara. What was his name again? Did it start with a T– Tensei? Tensai? No, no, not that. Tessai? Tessai! That’s it!
“Are you alright?” He asked, head turning to look over my scraps. Pursuing my lips together, I nod and rock on my heels. I look over his shoulder and the building behind him. The giant sign on the building had “Urahara Shop” on it, and I could practically feel my eyes sparkling. Screw the ugly-ass Coraline knockoff, this was more important. Turning to look back at Tessai, focusing on his nose.
“I think I’ll be fine. Do you work there? Are there perhaps bandaids I could buy?” I look down at my scraped knees before looking back up at Tessai in time to see him nod.
“Yes, come with me. I can help you.” He begins to slowly walk towards the shop, making sure to not go too fast to prevent me from getting soaked any further. I make sure to pull my face into a small smile to make sure he knows I appreciate his actions. He slides up the door, ushering me inside. I look around at the various shelves and items they had. The anime never really had long shots of the inside of the store. It reminds me of like, a Dollar Store or a Daiso. It seemed to have a little bit of everything, though snacks seemed the most prominent.
Tessai guided me to a round table in a connected room, motioning for me to take a seat before disappearing through another store. Shrugging my backpack off, I set it beside me before slowly settling down on a cushion. I know he brought me to sit down, but I feel bad for coming in here and soaking the cushion and floor. Tessai returned with a towel and a First Aid kit. He handed me the towel, before setting the first aid kid down and sitting beside me. I wrap myself in the large towel, drying off various areas as best as I could.
“Thank you for the towel, but you don’t have to treat me, I can just pay for bandaids” I offered, moving to grab my backpack to at least pull out my wallet to pay him back, but he simply held up his hand and shook his head.
“There’s no need. It’s the least I could do for you.” I mumbled a thank you as he began to treat my hands first. I wonder if he was discretely using that healing ability I remember him using in the anime. It was hard to tell if the tingling sting I felt was from his healing powers, or just whatever he was using to clean the scrapes. By the time he finished up, my clothes were only slightly damp and he had given me a hot tea I was slowly sipping from, hiding the grimace at the taste to not seem rude. Once he finished, I thanked him and carefully stood up to not mess up any of the fresh bandages.
“So, are you the owner the shop is named after? Urahara?” I asked, looking around the room to show how curious I am about the shop. I’ve been here for a while and Urahara had yet to appear. He seemed like the kind of guy that was nosey and liked to know what was going on in his store. Tessai shook his head and he cleaned up and stood up with the first aid kit
“No, no. My name is Tessai. The owner Urahara is a friend of mine, but he’s out at the moment.” I nodded along as if I was hearing this information for the first time.
“I see, I see. Is it okay if I buy some snacks before I go?”
After getting the approval, I quickly picked out some snacks, paid for them, and gave Tessai one of the bread buns I bought before leaving with an awkward bow and a thank you.
