Summary
Mythical creatures were heavily favored everywhere in the world. It was near impossible for humans to work anywhere that didn’t only pay minimum wage and wasn’t a dead-end job.
Some humans, those who couldn’t get jobs at all, had the option to sell themselves into a multitude of cruel and heavily illegal markets. Businesses that would drain a human of most of their blood in order to feed vampires, let demons experiment with their magic on them, have shapeshifters practice shifting by taking their form, or would have werewolves hunt them down for sport.
Even if all of those horrible practices and businesses were outlawed, it didn’t stop them from existing.
Basically, it was hard for humans to survive anymore.
Tommy was human, but nobody knew. Not a single soul knew that he was human and it was a secret that Tommy was sure he’d attempt to take to his grave.

“I’m-” Tubbo grunted, pulling a blond-haired form over the steps, “Fine, now help me please?”
“Wha-” Ranboo stared at Tommy, laid out on the floor.
Two dark ears poked out from platinum curls, a swishing, ringed tail lashing softly on the floor. Silver rings hung off clawed fingers, rubies embedded into them. A similar circlet rested upon his hair, and the boy’s bare feet appeared caught between those of an animal’s paws and a human’s.
...
Light filtered down through the snow-coated pines, glaring off bright snow, blinding it temporarily. It turned away from the clear crystal sheets, following slowly behind its companion.
They were greeted by a cheerful looking creature, its long pink hair trailing down past its shoulders. Scales dotted its cheeks, webs between its blue-dusted claws, fin-like pointed ears twitched, sapphire embedded into silver earrings. Its grin showed off rows of long, sharp teeth, slitted pupils contrasting ultramarine irises.
“Welcome.” It spoke, voice high-pitched and soft, a stark differential to its appearance.

It’s as Ranboo is thinking this that he notices something different in one of the cells.
He doubles back, peers inside the cell, and-
He does a double take.

His eyes land on their face. The first thing he registers is the burn scar spidering across half of their face. The second thing he registers are their stormy gray eyes.
He jolts when he realizes that they’re staring right at him.
