Philza laughed bitterly. “We have to be. And the powerless have ways of protecting themselves, protecting each other. We shouldn’t have to, but unfortunately it’s the world we live in. So it’s up to us to put things right.” “Tommy” buried himself in the embrace to hide his scarlet eyes and growing horns. But he was only pretending to be human. He wasn’t- wasn’t weak. He was more powerful than this wretched human. And yet how often had he been scared and hurting? He’d replaced Philza’s real son in a bid for power, but it was never going to protect him, was it? There would always be someone stronger.
“How?” the demon begged.
“By being clever, and patient, and most importantly kind.”Or; one by one Philza’s sons were replaced by monsters. It’s the first taste any of them have of love, but their masks are far more than skin deep.

"Something like that." She sighed, waving one of her attendants forward, though not without a slightly too-hard look he couldn't bring himself to meet head-on. Several sheafs of paper were passed to him, the purple tinge of it familiar, though the ink was far too dark to be End-made. "These are the trade agreements that we have been going over for the past few months now, but they also requested a representative of our courts to... permanently reside in the Overworld, as a show of trust."
Ah. A hostage. That, at least, Phil could understand.

As blow after blow rains down upon Phil by his captor, he’s mocked with harsh words sneered at him, the condescending “Does this hurt? My apologies, Your Highness” and the smug "Oh how the mighty have fallen, Your Majesty."
And there's not even any denying it: King Phil has most definitely fallen.
But in the darkest of times, he finds a light to grasp onto, a friend in the form of the piglin hybrid locked in his cell.
Or a story of friendship between Phil and Techno, in which an ex-king who’s had all his freedom stripped away and a prisoner who’s always been treated like an animal both discover just how nice it is to finally have a friend.

What defines a god? Are there upper and lower bounds? Is there anything concrete at all?
In one world, humanity found the answer when something far beyond the rank of god chose them as playthings, the sky shattering like clay, the incomprehensible forcing itself upon the earth's surface. Some died, some became survivors, some were mutated, and a select few were... changed.
Phil is among the ranks of those changed, neither human nor monster but something both more and less. He can no further explain what he is than he can comprehend his very nature of being. He's learned to live with it though. Everyone learns to live eventually.
And then he's taken from this world and into another. A world that never knows a being above their beloved gods. A world where those favored walk among those who are not, either demigods or gods-given flesh depending on the perspective. He's brought to this world and told to help.
How can Phil help them when he can't even help himself?

Summary
Tommy is deeply, achingly aware of his friends’ kindnesses. Phil had been the one to offer a spare room, with the only catch being a cost of rent far cheaper than what it should have been. But Phil had only shrugged with a slight grin.
Phil is great like that. So is Techno. So is Wilbur.
Tommy…isn’t. He just isn’t. He has nothing to him, he’s substanceless—and he feels it, in the way that the frigid winds in the August nights threaten to blow him away, like he’s made of nothing but sand.
Tommy imagines that death will be like that. He imagines that he’ll close his eyes, and his body will finally break apart and decay right then and there. He imagines that that will be the only way his memory persists—like stubborn sand hidden in the creases of the carpet.

Tommy decides that life is just too much. His friends decide that Tommy is wrong.
(In which Tommy tries to kill himself, and his friends work to bring him back from the ledge).

Phil is an influential architect in a global construction firm, and Techno is a well regarded author with several movies adapted from his works. Neither of these things is true, but neither of them know it of the other: they're too busy killing people for forgotten gods in exchange for the riches they lavish each other with.
Until their gods tell them something very, very interesting.

Summary
Being a supervillain means having many secrets. Your identity, your plans, even your powers must be kept under lock and key lest the heroes begin to hunt you even outside of work. Except, some people do a bit too good a job at that. Techno is 'some people'.
Or, rather, Techno *was* in that category, to the point that no one can actually say who he once was. Amnesia robs even him of his secrets. There may be theories and rumors, but when he actually gets unmasked, he doesn't even know his own name. The heroes can find nothing on him. So, Techno starts anew. The feared supervillain Lord Macbeth is no more, and no one knows for certain what even happened. The heroes cannot be trusted with their claims.
But even if Techno forgets, that past does not. Old allies and enemies scramble to find him again. Whatever happens next is up to them.

And then once the deed was done, they'd forever be trapped in a life away from the ocean, forced to obey their husband-master's every whim as their bride.
Which was part of Missa's justification for even being where he was now- perched behind a rock a little ways from the shore, and keeping a single human in his sights while doing his best to stay hidden.
By far the stupidest thing he'd ever done, had ever continued to do, but he found he couldn't quite help himself.
