“Your Majesty,” a familiar voice breaks him from his thoughts, radio static lacing his words, “Are you paying attention?”
“Uh,” he says, intelligently, “I—yes, of course I’m paying attention!” He gives a confident laugh, as though the mere thought that he would zone out in the middle of Alastor’s explanation is absurd.
Alastor raises a brow, his eye twitching irritably. “Oh?” he says, “Well, if you were paying attention, would care to tell me what I said about Carmilla’s daughters?”
Lucifer’s face flushes as he tries to come up with a single fact that Alastor had told him.
“…There’s two of them?” he offers, sheepish.

Lucifer tries to step into a more active role as the King of Hell—with Alastor’s assistance, that is.
It goes about as well as one would expect.

Lucifer looks at Alastor, confused. “You sure could’ve fooled me,” he responds. Alastor rolls his eyes.
“When you threw me up against the wall,” he explains, “and I told you to let me go. You did.”
Lucifer stares at him, uncomprehending. “I mean, fuck, that’s like, the bare minimum of human decency?”
“Perhaps,” Alastor responds, “but you’d be surprised to know how few actually meet that minimum. You had every right to be furious with me, but none of that mattered. As soon as I was uncomfortable, you let me go. No questions asked, no derogatory comments. I wouldn’t recognize what it was until we met with Rosie, but I believe that’s when my feelings toward you started to change.”
“Huh,” Lucifer says, intelligently. He gets a devilish grin on his face after a moment of silence. “So…” he says, “Did it hurt?” He settles farther into Alastor’s side. His exhaustion from the day’s events seems to have finally caught up with him.
Alastor raises an eyebrow. “Pardon? Did what hurt, Sire?”
“When you fell,” he says, voice dripping with sarcasm, “For me, I mean.”
Alastor groans, but somehow, the noise manages to sound fond. “It didn’t hurt,” he responds, “but spending time in your terrible presence certainly does.”

Summary
Steve's rarely been touched in a way that didn't equate to some kind of hurt. The cold metal of a stethoscope against his frail chest or the sting of a needle drawing yet another blood sample, when he was a sickly child. The bone-shattering punches thrown by the neighborhood bullies on the playground, or by his own father at home, drunk and wild. His mother, weak and clutching at him as she grew more incoherent with the drugs as the cancer ate away at her insides. Touch was something he shied away from, something he told himself he just didn't want.
Except...he did. He just didn't know how.
Until he finds a flyer for a local "affection and intimacy services" program.
In which Steve learns how to become comfortable with touch, and there is one very good dog, and a slow-burn romance.

Summary

What if one of those times Charlie denies the allegations just a tad too hard for Alastor's pride?
“Nononono, absolutely not.” His attention laser focuses on Charlie as she laughs, shyly tucking her hair behind her ear, “Alastor and I? Dating? That’s crazy! Ummm, I mean, we’re just business partners and like you said, he’s the Radio Demon, it would never work between us. He doesn't feel that way about anyone, let alone me.”
After all, he's always enjoyed proving people wrong.

After falling into a magical lagoon during a once-in-a-lifetime eclipse, music students Viktor, Mila, and Yuri find themselves transforming into merfolk whenever they touch water... and considering that they live on the coast, that's probably going to cause some trouble. Things get even weirder when they discover strange powers that may have bigger effects on their daily lives than they could ever imagine.
Add to the mix a thalassophobic pianist, a marine biologist (possibly cryptozoologist) who might actually be completely insane, and a treasure-hunting Canadian... one thing's for sure: their lives sure just got a whole lot more interesting.
