    “I’m in     uniform,” Jon argues, “and it’s not my fault that most ‘people’ we deal with are dreadful things of the night.”
    Martin can’t help the smirk that crosses his face. “Well, lucky for you,” he says, “    I have lots of practice dealing with one of those.”

    In the grand scheme of things, going to fetch a...a skin book for the Institute isn't the weirdest assignment they've been on.

    But it wasn’t actually them in the reflection.

    They allowed their concentration on this image drop. They felt their skin begin to shift, to move and to change. They paled, familiar with the shrinking and cracking of bones as they warped to fit a smaller frame. Every thread and bit of flesh tying him together came undone.

    Then, as quickly as it had begun, it ended, and the mask was gone. It was like Rumi had never existed.

    Chip slings up Gillion's hand in his own, and somehow, without further push or pull or any thought of his own, their fingers slide together. Not perfectly interlocked, one by one, but twined together nonetheless, Chip's knuckles sliding about and clasping against Gillion's, sharp ridges of bone pressed harmlessly into soft skin.

    "You should stop brooding by yourself, Tidestrider," he finishes, raising an eyebrow at him. "Moon'll always be there. C'mon, have some fun." With me, he might say, if he were any deeper in the drink.

    As it is, all he does is tug Gillion towards him. Even though Chip knows Gillion wouldn't budge an inch if he didn't want to, he sways as easy as that, slipping without protest from his watchful post beside the banister to go where Chip leads.

    OR: Chip catches Gillion staring up at the moon all alone at a party. A drunken talk ensues, involving papayas, eggs, and the typical sort of sappy feelings one co-captain may share for (and perhaps with) another.
