“Very funny, House,” you remark, staring at the closed door. “I’m telling Cuddy you’re the reason for the high electric bill.”
“Couldn’t humor me for even one second?” a muffled voice sounds from behind the door.
Five times House fails to scare you, and the one time he succeeds.

“This… complicates things,” you eventually say, sensing the shinigami’s eyes on you.
“Does it really?” Ryuk hums. “Just keep doing your thing. You kill people, I watch. Win-win.”
“I’m not doing this to kill people,” you say. That’s not how you want to use the notebook. You’re not going to kill people out of revenge, vengeance, anything like that. You’re only going to get rid of those who truly deserve it.
Ryuk laughs. It’s a loud, frightening sound that sends your heart racing again. “Right,” it says with a scoff. “I’ve heard that one before, trust me.”
You find the Death Note.

The look on Mike’s face is priceless. His jaw is practically dropped, his eyes wide as he stares at you in complete shock. “Wha—” he sputters, standing there helplessly. You’re not his intended target, after all—he left that note for Hannah. Yet here you are.
You take particular joy in slowly closing the door behind you. You can feel his friends staring at you from their hiding places. “So,” you enunciate carefully, “are we doing this or what?”
“Uh… what?” he manages to choke out, giving you an awkward smile. It’s meant to be charming, clearly—it just irritates you more.
Mike writes a note to Hannah, intending to prank her. You, her twin brother, find it first.

Unfortunately, your lips move faster than your mind can filter. “...I’d rather not,” you blurt out. Whoops. You really should not have said that. It already seems like the guy doesn’t like you—now you’re just giving him more reason.
Indeed, Gavin glares at you. Even when you return to your work alone, you can’t shake the feeling of eyes on your back.
You catch Kristoph’s attention after you face off in court.

“You should get some sleep, Harry,” you suggest, changing the subject. “We have a long day ahead of us.” Harry’s face is pinched and he stares at you for a moment, before shaking his head. He won’t let his guard down, and you can’t really blame him. You take a deep breath, before trying to think of a way to assure Harry that he can trust you. “Here.” Harry stands at the object you hand him with thinly-veiled confusion and apprehension.
“It’s my wand,” you explain, “A wand is a wizard’s most powerful accessory, weapon, and aid. I’m giving my wand to you to show that I mean you no harm.”
“You trust me with your wand?” Harry whispers.
“Yes,” you respond instinctually. You decide that more people need to show their trust and faith in the boy.
Canonically, Harry’s first introduction to the Wizarding World was wonderful and magnificent, but it was also jaded. He was left to make his own assumptions about magic from the behaviors of those around him. But what if Harry Potter had a trustworthy adult to teach him about the Wizarding World—one who always had faith in him, stood up for him, and protected him?
