    “Dami.” The nickname is no longer a resigned utterance, but a sharp warning as Dick stands and begins to, once again, pull the boy away.

    “Need to know what?” Jason forces himself to sit up with a slight wince, his back propped against the too-flat pillows. “Unless Dickwad here managed to kill the Joker, I don’t wanna hear it.” His sarcastic laugh is mixed with an irritated huff and scoff, all in one.

    Dick’s movements stutter, and he internally curses himself for it. Jason, while not renowned for his detective skills, is still part of the family– incredibly smart and intimate in his knowledge of Dick’s behaviors and tells. That, and the satisfied smile on Damian’s face, give it away.

    He looks around, his movements are slow and his words are slurred. Jack looks confused and a little scared, but mostly out of it. “Wha…” He trails off. “Wh’t happened?” Jesus, this feels like a bad seat belt ad they would show in health class. It doesn’t feel real.

    “Oh.” He says simply. “Um- I think my, I hit my head or s’methin’...” He says.

    “Yeah, no shit.”

    It was supposed to be an easy and quick run to the store and back. Knowing Jack, nothings ever easy with him. The only difference now is that June doesn't think they'll make it out of this one so quickly.
