    It starts with the dreams.
    Not nightmares. Not exactly. They’re too real for that,too heavy, too intentional. Jason wakes up gasping, lungs full of air that smells like swamp water and gunpowder, dirt caked under his fingernails like he’d been digging. Some mornings his boots are wet. Once, there’s mud on the floorboards.

    And lately… he’s been hearing the dead.

    Not all the time. Not like a chorus. Just—voices where they shouldn’t be. A woman humming by a broken gravestone in Crime Alley. A soldier reciting scripture in a trench that hasn’t existed in seventy years. Names whispered like prayers.
    One night, the dead don’t just whisper. They plead.

    Jason isn’t stupid. When you wake up with swamp mud under your nails and ghosts don’t shut up, you call the one idiot who might know what to do. John Constantine looks Jason up and down, lights a cigarette, and mutters, He doesn’t ask how Jason’s doing. He doesn’t lecture about the cost of messing with the border between living and dead. He just gathers grimoires, bottle of whiskey, two lighters, one gun (that Jason laughs at), and they hit the road.

    Summary of lore in case you’re new:

    Tim has become a figment of Thanatos, the god of natural death. Therefore, he cannot die of unnatural causes, such as violent deaths or poison. This included the Clench because it wasn’t a natural virus. Basically, he can’t die before it’s his natural time.

    Any active injuries he has when he dies are healed without scars. If he gets injured and survives, such as getting his spleen skewered, then those scars remain.

    His connection to the astral plane also gives him the ability to become invisible and intangible as well as interacting with ghosts. He can lend his power to other ghosts, but it leaves him weak.

    “They’re demons.” John said bluntly. “Unless you and your brood have become quite practiced at demon hunting without me knowing - which, let's face it, is rather unlikely - then it certainly is my business.”

    Tim is going through his family home to sell it after his parents die. He is mostly sorting the artifacts they sent home from archaeological digs, returning cultural/heritage things they really shouldn't have taken, when he finds a weird clay jar wrapped in dried roses he doesn't recognize and sealed with wax. The tag with his mother's handwriting says it's believed to be a variation of a witch bottle that was used to capture a ghost in the town of Salam by a spiritual hunter claiming to have caught a ghost that let the witch he was after escape.

    Tim avoids magic things when he can so he plans to just send this to the JLD, but after he takes a sample of the mystery roses first. (Can't risk Ivy learning about something new and occult related after all.) Unfortunately for Tim, the roses pretty much disintegrate when he touches them and the wax seal cracks.

    The next thing he knows is there is a bright light blinding him and he suddenly isn't alone in the room.
