Summary
This series is Faramir-centric, in an AU where Faramir is secretly the illegitimate son of Aragorn. In the course of writing the first main story about Faramir and Aragorn beginning to work together before they knew about this relationship (Beginnings & Endings), I rather got derailed into developing a bunch of other characters, which is where most of the stories come from. It is entirely my intention to return to finish Beginnings & Endings.
Please note that, currently, many of the stories in the DH AU include spanking, or some element of corporal punishment, in at least one chapter. If you would rather read stories without spanking or corporal punishment, most of my DH AU stories are re-written to exclude all of that in the Desperate Hours Alternate Universe Gen Version, available here: https://archiveofourown.org/series/16409 under my SusanaR main pseudonym.
Below in the notes I have listed the major distinctions from, and certain elaborations on, the canon of Tolkien's Legendarium, for purposes of this AU, which I am calling the Desperate Hours alternate universe (DH AU).

Summary
Afterwards, when Bard the Bowman was anointed with oils and made King by the people of Laketown, he fashioned what was left of the black arrow into a crown. With the remaining splinters of iron, he asked the Dwarves to create three items for his children. A ring inlaid with obsidian for Bain, a simple necklace for Sigrid, and for the youngest, the tiniest, a knife was given to Tilda. They were simple things for a poor family turned royalty, and yet the three held onto their treasures as tightly as Girion held the arrow.
For Inge, the knife cut a constant reminder of how her great-grandfather slew a dragon.
Her kingdom might have been young, with no noble deed except that of Bard the Dale King, yet she would not let her people starve. So, in the late Third Age, a Lady of Laketown stepped into the ancient halls of Minas Tirith, dragon-killer’s blood hot in her veins, her grandmother’s knife at her hip, and married into the House of the Stewards.
Thus, the future is changed.

Once they have traveled a half-dozen times across the reaches of the land—from the Blue Mountains to the Iron Hills, the tip of lonely Andrast to the border with Near Harad, and so near to Rhûn that Aragorn has to beg them not to go again—Gimli suggests that he and Legolas might settle down. Not stop traveling entirely, he says hastily. Just… settle into a routine.
AKA "Legolas and Gimli Grow Old Together". Starting with Gimli's 250th birthday, spanning 11 years as they travel from Algarond to Ithilien together (and back, and then do it all again)... and going all the way to the end. What if the Feanorian line had never ended? By the time of the War of the Ring, only one remains, Miril, seasoned Ranger of the North and adopted daughter of Halbarad. Fully committed to seeing her chieftain and friend upon his rightful throne, Miril finds herself traipsing around Middle Earth, sometimes crossing paths with the Fellowship, and often in the company of the sons of Elrond. But her plans of total dedication to Aragorn gets disrupted when Galadriel allows her a glimpse in the mirror, and to everyone's dismay, it appears that the silmarils are not yet done with the line of Feanor.
Follow Miril (The Other Ranger, Exploring Westernesse, Last Days of Arda), and later her son Aderthon (Return to the North, Dreams of Power, Flight to the East, Matters of Song, One Final Prophecy) as they seek redemption for the eldest house of Finwe and protection for all the Free Peoples.
