But she didn't realise the job consists of basically being a glorified 'babysitter' (or Mischief-Minder) to Loki, who has returned to Earth with his big brother.
Needless to say, neither of them are too impressed by the situation, especially Loki, who's virtually under house-arrest and now at the mercy of a taser-happy intern.
Then the most unexpected thing happens.
The pair actually start to get along, after they are thrown together with only each other for company.This is set after Thor: Ragnarok but in an AU (we're just going to forget about all that Infinity War unpleasantness for now!)

“What’s your favorite dinosaur?”
“What?” Loki turned back to her, but she was spinning one of her feet like a ballerina doing a half-turn. Her boot had little rhinestones on the side. Loki wasn’t entirely sure what for.
“Dinosaurs,” She declared, and gave his arm an experimental swing. When she didn’t receive any backlash, she did it again, harder. Loki felt like his shoulder would unlatch from his socket if it kept up.
“I don’t know,” He said truthfully. He wasn’t sure if he was supposed to have a favorite dinosaur. He wasn’t even fully sure what a dinosaur was. “What’s yours?”
“Brachiosaurus.” How she said that so smoothly, and mispronounced any other word with more than two syllables was one of the great mysteries of the universe. “It’s tall and it’s all green.” Loki nodded, and she looked up at him, squinting to blur out his features. “You’re also kinda tall and green.”

Tony went to the fruit bowl which had claimed residence on the coffee table, and plucked a red apple from amongst the pile.“We’re all going to the training room,” he said, looking around at the team before his eyes landed back on Loki. “And then you are going to throw a knife at this apple. While it sits on my head.”
There was a moment of quiet.
“Oh, he’s finally lost it,” Natasha sighed—
And then the room burst into a cacophony of noise.
Bruce wasn’t the loudest, but he seemed the most determined as he tried to make it clear that he thought this was a Very Bad Idea. Steve was in agreement, it seemed, and was speaking over Bruce to explain that Tony was probably going to lose his head. Thor was the loudest, but Tony couldn’t quite make out what he was saying, something about valiant challenges worth celebrating. Clint sounded utterly convinced that Tony was going to die, and Natasha congratulated him on getting a head start planning his funeral.
Actually, the only person who hadn’t said anything at all… was Loki.
He was watching Tony with something careful in his eyes, his lips pressed together as if he were trying to stop some errant words from making their escape. And as Tony held his gaze, Loki stood from the couch and came closer, reaching forward with his free hand as if he wanted to touch—but then he let it fall to his side, and cleared his throat.
“You would do that?” Loki asked.
It was the softness of his tone which gave away the fact that Loki knew just as well as Tony did how much of a big thing this could mean.
Tony threw caution to the wind and completed the movement he’d been so sure Loki had been about to make, shoving the apple in his pocket before reaching out and curling their fingers together.
“Of course,” he said. “I trust you.”
Loki’s expression broke into a smile. It was far brighter than any of the others that he had worn over the course of their evening, and it made Tony smile back.
