    Superboy hadn’t died in a fight, nor in a heroic way, he died from a deadly virus, alone and forgotten by everyone, in a hospital.

    However, he wakes up- wakes up in the past, once again inside the Cadmus laboratory, when he’s freed by Robin, Aqualad, and Kid Flash. Again… locked up again… destined once more to be used as a weapon… destined once more to die alone.

    So when they escape the facility this time, Superboy decides to leave before they can stop him before Superman arrives, before he can be hurt again, before everything repeats.

    Superboy no longer wants to be a hero. He wants to live, to be a person, to have a family and now, he will choose his own destiny under the name Conner.

    Things had been good for Conner since the court awarded him personhood two and a half years ago. He's finally graduated high school, and he's even going to college at Metropolis University once summer ends. He's determined to make the most of his break to spend time with the people he cares about and to celebrate just how far he's come.

    These plans fall by the wayside when Clark begins to inexplicably seek Conner out each night and forget what he's done by morning. Conner finds himself adrift in a world in which nowhere is safe, no one can help, and nothing he does ever changes the outcome. Is there any way out that won't further victimize them both? And does Clark really believe the things he says when the sun goes down?

    When Conner begins behaving strangely, Clark isn't sure if the boy is just having a hard time around him again because of their early history, or if something more sinister is at work. Determined to be there for the kid he's come to see as a son, he begins investigating, but he has a hard time making any progress in the face of the boy's resistance.     Kon took a step back, prepared to make his grand escape, when he backed up right into a solid figure behind him. He turned quickly, shrinking down with an audible intake of breath, standing below the towering figure of none other than Superman himself. He wore a peculiar look on his face, eyebrows slightly furrowed, lip pulled back into what could have been mistaken as a smile, but only seemed full of forced politeness.

    And then Kon heard the strange rumbling sound coming right from the center of Superman’s throat. Kon shrunk back, but this time, put himself right behind Superman and out of sight of the press.
