“Have you heard about the Midnight Painter?” Tommy is asked by Wilbur off-screen during a Q&A episode for his podcast.
Tommy’s face contours with his confusion, “No, is that a new case?” His gaze slips from where Wil’s voice came from to the other side of the camera.
Typing can be heard off-screen, then a voice follows it, “It’s the name of the person behind a series of violent murders. They supposedly paint the victim with their own blood and drop them off on the doorstep of the victim’s family.” Techno informs him.
...
“The Midnight Painter.” Tommy starts after finishing his intro, shuffling a couple papers, “A murderer who has risen within the past couple months. They are associated with around 20 reported murders, pointed out by their killing call. Every murder done by them is painted in detail using the blood of the victim and placed outside of the family’s door, a letter written in blood with them."

Tommy is a true-crime podcaster and was recently asked to cover a new series of violent murders and report on them. Little does the world know, it just so happens that he may or may not know just a bit more about them than his listeners realize.Series

For a moment, he just watched as the kid admired his work.
That was, of course, until the kid turned and looked right him. An ear piercing screech, and said kid was on the floor nervously laughing as he muttered nonsense to himself.
After a bit, he composed himself and mustered up a confident smile, "I-" he pauses, and stands up from his spot on the floor, "A-hem. I did NOT see you there. You really shouldn't sneak up on people like that."
".. I was here the entire time." Techno pointed out helpfully
"... Uh-" he slowly took a step backwards, "I'll be going now, sorry for bothering you!" And with that, the teen hastily spun on his heel and speed-walked out of the gallery.
Techno watched the exit with an amused look, what an interesting kid.

Wilbur, who Tommy really looked up to at the time, painted him a moth. That moth meant the entire world to Tommy. He put it on his wall immediately. It was an imperial moth, also known as an eacles imperialis. It was beautiful shades of purple and yellow on a red-brown tree, the background a blurry mess of greens, browns, and blues...
...Now, that painting laid on Tommy’s floor with dirty shoe marks and a hole punched through it. Did Tommy regret it? Yes. Did that change anything? No. Tommy had already stomped on it, destroying it, the painting he used to love with beautiful fresh colors, the painting from when he still looked up to his older brother.
