    The dust sat on its shoulders like a child on his father's back, pointing at a pear tree with merry, jovial glee. There was a build-up of grime forming at the cracks of the statue, like a porcelain vase glued together hurriedly, hastily.

A howling wind whipped his robes about, throwing the shards in his face, berating his back, and cutting into every bit of exposed skin. Here, the sun didn’t shine, leaving this place in a dusk-like eternity, right on the cusp of darkness but never quite sinking into it. The wind bit as well as tore, sinking frozen teeth into his spine till he shivered, tugging his robes further around him. The coins in his pockets jingled dully, lost to the endless moan, each one thin and small but, to the people here, priceless in value.
