    Summary

The one named Melkor, the Great Darkness that filled the hearts of elves with terror, came to the Valar and repented in front of them by his own volitions, bound by no chains and defeated naught. In the ways unforeseen, that had lead to a meeting and a game of friendship that was never meant to be. Two kindred spirits, the Vala and an Elda. And the history of Middle-earth changed forever.

    "Why are we here?"

    "In the gardens?" Olórin asked.

"In...Aman," the child clarified, head still bowed, unmoving.

Olórin approached the child's side, keeping a respectful distance. "Arda is marred," he replied. "It was no longer safe for the Eldar there. In Aman there is light, and the protection of the Valar. Shadow lies over Endorë, and the curse of death.

"Then there is no death in Aman?"

"These are the Undying Lands," Olórin spoke gently, assuredly. "The hröa may weaken, or even break, but the fëa cannot die. Only sleep, and heal. In time, all will awaken, and life will go on."

"I understand," the child replied. After a pause, he turned his head for the first time, meeting Olórin eye to eye. "How much longer until my mother will wake?"

    Summary

In this world, it was not Fëanáro who called the Noldor to an Oath. It was not Fëanáro who dared accuse the Valar, who incited the Doom, who led the people across the sea.

In this world, it was Indis.

(Of the House of Finwë and the Noldor in Beleriand, and their eventual defeat of Morgoth.)

Oromë and Yavanna had another falling-out over the Hunt. Or Ulmo was angry because he doesn't like meetings. Or someone petitioned again for Fëanor to be released from Mandos, and there was a riot. That’s the favourite, currently, "The crux of the matter is, the Music has changed. Manwë and Namo at least can hear new chords. And Manwë says it was Eru Illuvatar himself who opened the Door of Night to let Elai through. Since Eru must have known Melkor was there, Eru let Melkor through also." Final fantasy crossover, He might have ignored the creature tumbling through the Void had he not felt the presence of his Father. But perhaps not. It had, after all, been years without count since anything had disturbed the emptiness of his existence. And although he wasn’t entirely certain he moved to grasp the flailing body before he felt Eru’s nearness, awareness of the latter didn’t stop him. If nothing else, it was something to do. There had been nothing for so long, something was almost incomprehensible. Angelic beings, captors, concussion, literal, warrior, mighty one, istari, In which actions have consequences, He might have ignored the creature tumbling through the Void had he not felt the presence of his Father. There had been nothing for so long, melkor and female from final fantasy A Prologue from the Author, My first venture into Tolkien fan-fiction, and I have no idea what this is about currently. If you've read any of my other work, think that, but even less sure what's going to happen! There are likely to be edits as this develops, sometimes substantial ones. I'm also doing a crash course in Tolkien lore; I wrote my dissertation on his work, but that was many years ago, and I've only just reread the Hobbit. Not going to lie, it was watching 'The Rings of Power' that made me revisit the books, and I'm not particularly a fan of the TV series. Loved Peter Jackson's films though, I sobbed all the way through the opening scenes of Fellowship, just because I felt like I was actually in Middle-earth.

Anyway, let's see how this goes ...first venture. “Explained that Sauron deceived everyone, you mean? That he went to Aulë pretending to be a friend and claimed Melkor was lying and meant to betray Fëanaro? That Aulë believed him and told Fëanaro? Who then took the Silmarils that he'd made with Melkor's help and denied that they'd ever worked together? You want me to assure you that Irmo told Fëanaro all that?”
It was a succinct appraisal of the facts. Facts that had only come to light recently. “Yeah, all that.” But there was more. “And that Melkor was devastated by Fëanaro's apparent betrayal and came to hate him for it?”

This is the continuation of the story begun in The Only Art of Heaven. I've tried to make it stand alone, but you may want to read the Only Art of Heaven first in case I haven't been entirely successful in my efforts!
