Summary
Sam Campbell is a sorcerer-in-training at The Academy, an exclusive facility for gifted “Specials,” or kids with gifts and talents of the supernatural variety. Given up as a baby for the chance to grow up to be a master magic-wielder, Sam grew up among other children who tested positive for magic potential as babies. Sam has an imaginary companion, whom he calls “Dean,” who has watched over him since the day he was removed from his birth family at six months. Dean is sent away by his father to live with Zachariah and his younger brother Castiel. Although the two boys are wary of each other initially, they quickly become friends and grow into young men skilled in the arts of fighting and hunting evil. It doesn't take long before their bond begins to become something much deeper, despite Cas' eldest brother Michael expressing his distaste. But when word comes that Lucifer is risen and is in search of his vessel, Castiel is called to serve his duty and fight in the war to save humanity, as is his destiny. Dean, unable to let his friend take on the devil alone, goes with him, little knowing just how important he is in this fight and what it will cost him.

Sam gets tangled up with his ex-roommate Brady, tracking psychics, but dealing with demons is never honest business. Dean carries on until his father is put in grave danger. He is left on his own to deal, stumbling into Harvelle's Roadhouse for help, where Dean gets just a little more than he bargained for. Eventually, the brothers’ paths twist and turn their way back to each other, but the results could mean the End of Days.

It was his Junior year of high school; Besides his student technical directing work-study, Dean had also bumped up to three AP classes this year and was volunteering with the guidance department's helpline. Just the night before, Sam had given him a long-winded lecture about the importance of Eleventh Grade. He'd reminded Dean that colleges would scrutinize this year's grades on his outgoing applications the following fall.
Dean sighed; He knew that school and everything else could be a manageable task. He just needed to stay focused, keep his nose to the grindstone, and somehow avoid all the drama outside of the theater department."
