    Fëanor did not know how to explain the ill-defined uneasiness and the almost instinctual dislike he felt, how impossible it was to reconcile the impression he had gotten from the tapestry in Mandos to the reality of Daeron in person, in life. “He seems careless,” he said, because he did not know how else to explain.

    “That is certainly not true,” said Nerdanel, “though I know well that I cannot expect you to take my word for it. It is long since you placed any trust in anyone’s judgment aside from your own, flawed though it is.”

     

    Midwinter is meant to be a time of feasting and merriment, but Fëanor does not find it so, especially with Daeron of Doriath in attendance.

    Yet, there are three things that Nerdanel knows with utter certainty. The first: Arda was marred long before her husband lifted his sword to his brother’s throat, long before the swan-ships were set aflame, long before kin slayed kin upon the pearl shores of Alqualondë.

    The second: Arda was marred long before she married her husband, bore him children, and even now, centuries later with the lights of Laurelin and Telperion both aloft, she is still brilliantly, incandescently furious enough that she could burn it all to the ground herself.

    And a third: Nerdanel sometimes still wishes she had been enough to mend it.

    Valinórë has been left shaken by the flight of the Ñoldor, and life there will inevitably change. These are stories of the Finwëans left to hold fort in Tirion – events leading to such a situation are described in my story Love in Times of Family Drama.

    The adventures of those Finwëans, who sailed to Endórë are recounted in my series Things to Do in Beleriand When One is not (In)sane, and reading them will help to understand some of the stuff that happens farther down the line, but is not absolutely necessary.

    These stories wouldn’t recognize canon even if it bit into their backsides.

    If there are no ends, there cannot be new beginnings - thank you for reading these stories and and I hope you ehjoyed them.

    Rebirth doesn't mean recovery for Tyelperinquar. After leaving Mandos, he pays a visit to Aule, hoping to find someone who might empathize with his pain. He's given a necklace - a necklace that holds the last vestiges of Sauron's soul. Overwhelmed and drowning in grief, he leaves to the abandoned northern forests of Aman, seeking shelter in solitude.

    Unfortunately, no one can outrun their problems for long. After an incident with a few too many spiders, Sauron's soul escapes its confines and takes an unusual shape - that of a slightly feral amnesiac elfling.
